Description

AUSTRALIA
PATENTS ACT 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT EYE LEVEL BRAKING LIGHT THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS A FULL DISCRIPTION OF THIS INVENTION, INCLUDING THE BEST METHOD OF PERFORMING IT KNOWN TO ME.
EYE LEVEL BRAKING LIGHT In view of the fact that with conventional systems the intensity of illumination of the brake light is constant, regardless of the force applied on the brakes, a following driver is hence unable to ascertain from such intensity whether the vehicle is merely slowing down, as in normal traffic flow, or making a hard emergency stop.
A braking light incorporated with a pressure transducer adapted to provide a variable signal in response to the braking force applied in a vehicle.
The signal affecting a different output of a brake indication system which is the illumination of a plurality of lights, the number illuminated dependent on the braking force.
I
A braking light incorporated with a pressure transducer adapted to provide a variable signal in response to the braking force applied in a vehicle. Said signal effecting a different output of a brake indication system which is the illumination of a plurality of lights, the number illuminated dependant on the braking force and wherein each light has an additional indicator which is more easily observed when the light is illuminated.
The Braking Light comprises of a rear eye level brake light incorporating several constant wattage bulbs that illuminate the words Caution and Braking or words similar in conjunction with the pressure applied to the braking system.
In a system constructed in this fashion and when a driver depressed the brake pedal for only moderate braking, the first constant wattage bulbs will illuminate to display the word "CAUTION" or a similar wording, this being in conjuction with the existing brake light display.
Interconnected with the hydraulic braking system will be a pressure transducer, should it be required to brake severely, the pressure in the system will rise to the preset transducer pressure of approximately 2,100 KPA., or 300 PSI. This pressure being a variable directly proportional to vehicle mass. This will actuate the transducer and allow an electrical current to constant wattage bulbs, thereby illumination the word "BRAKING" or a similar word.
Obviously a following driver would notice the one "CAUTION" light which would denote only moderate braking, and could slow the vehicle sufficiently to stop or decrease the vehicle speed as the case may be. Should the following driver, however, notice the succeeding "BRAKING" light the driver would know that the car in front was being braked severely, and would have sufficient warning to stop the vehicle in time to avoid a potentially injurious and damaging rear end collision.

Claims (4)

1. A braking light will provide an indication of the degree of brake application to give the driver of a following vehicle sufficient warning to enable the driver to apply his own brakes to avoid a potentially injurious and damaging rear end collision.
2. A braking light provides an automatic system whereby the illumination of said braking light is proportional to the force applied to the braking system.
3. A braking light may be preferentially adapted to be incorperated in an existing braking system with a minimum of time and effort.
4. A braking light will significantly reduce braking response time. A braking light would indicate the rate of deceleration of a vehicle.
