Description

12-OCT-04 TUE 89:33 CRESCENT HEAD CYCLES 065622888 P.03 Australia Patents Act 1990 Complete Specification Innovation Patent 'Multi-Geared Motor Assist Kit'
M.A.K.)
(for bicycles) The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: COMS ID No: SBMI-00950654 Received by IP Australia: Time 08:47 Date 200410-12 12-OCT-T4. TUE 09:4 CRESCENT HEAD CYCLES 06562288 o 'Multi-Geared Motor Assist Kit' S(M-G.
M.A.K.)
S(for Bicycles) N For many years Bicycle Motor Assist Kits have only come with a single gear ratio. This severely restricted the performance of the kits; they had poor hill climbing ability at slow speeds and would fO over-rev at higher road speeds, thereby risking motor damage as oo 5 well.
0 The M-G. M.A.K. invention has been designed to provide multiple gear ratios to permit the motor to operate at its designed R.P.M.
Srange no matter what the slope or speed.
c A Multi-Geared Motor Assist Kit in accordance with this invention comprises a platform carrier over the Bicycle's rear wheel, onto which a small 200 Watt limited, 2 or 4 stroke Brushcutter Motor, or electric motor, with attached pulley (or sprocket).
Also mounted on this platform is a Multi-Geared Epicyclic Bicycle Hub Gear. The motor drives, via a belt (or sprocket), another pulley (or sprocket) attached to the input sprocket of the Hub- Gears or 14 speed Hubs are available).
The output sprocket attached to the other end of the Hub Gears transfers the power, via a chain and chain tensioning idler sprocket, to the drive sprocket mounted on the left side of the rear wheel thereby providing a supplementary and independent supply of power to the rear wheel.
A removable cover over the pulley drive and Hub Gears ensures the security of the invention.
The rider is able to select the best gear ratio via the cable operated gear selector mounted on the handlebars, and determines the motor power via a throttle control mounted on the handle bars.
The 'Multi-Geared Motor Assist Kit' platform and canopy is best made from aluminium, with the Carrier Stays being steel for greater strength and fatigue resistance. The Motor and Gearbox cradles can be constructed from steel or aluminium.
P. 4 COMS ID No: SBMI-00950654 Received by IP Australia: Time 08:47 Date 2004-10-12 12-OCT-04 TUE 69:34 CRESCENT HEAD CYCLES o65622888 i 2.
0 o The Invention may be bettor understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the Invention which: 0 Figure I is an elevation of a Multi-Geared Motor Assist Kir.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the rMulti-Geared Motor Assist Kit'.
V)
00 o 5 The M-G. shown consists of a Platform with a motor o(1) mounted to a cradle The output shaft supporting the pulley (or sprocket) is o supportcd by a floating bearing ensuring durable and accurate pulley (or sprocket) alignment.
The Hub Gearbox is also mounted in a cradle which has 2 slots for sliding the hub axle up or down, thereby providing chain tensioning.
The Hub input sprocket has an aluminium pulley attached if the belt drive option is used.
A small output sprocket is secured to the other end of the Hub.
Chain oscillations are dampened by the idler sprocket A chain (11) transfers the power to the large sprocket (12) mounted on the wheel.
