1/6 Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT IMPROVED SAFETY RAZOR The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me IMPROVED SAFETY RAZOR 1. This invention relates to a Safety Razor, which may be operated on the same principle as the currently produced standard safety razors but with improved efficiency characteristics.
2. Since the introduction of disposable/cartridge safety razor blades, the razor blade products being distributed by manufacturers to this present day, have remained basically unchanged. These products have been incorporating the same level (horizontal) blade format see previous art Figure G although several improvement variations have been employed over time, such as the doubling and tripling of the number of blades on the one unit, as well as other forms of construction and design.
3. A common characteristic encountered with those previously designed and manufactured razor blade units, has been that their blade configurations restricts the operation of their units to a tendency to drag and cut the hairs at a perpendicular perspective, in a hacking like motion.
The main reason for this result in their operation is that it has been the main practice of these manufacturers to form the blade configurations in a straight and level horizontal position.
4. An' Improved Safety Razor', in accordance with this innovation, has been specifically designed to significantly increase the efficiency of the safety razor, by altering the current standard design of each blade i.e. the current level horizontal format to having either one, two, or more blades, in a newly designed angled arrangement. The' Improved Safety Razor blades, see Figure A showing a the blades set in a split format or b) as a single piece format and set at specific angles either downwards or upwards, from the centre of the blades, towards the outer left and right extremes, of the rectangular cavity, within the housing of the razor cartridge.
2/6 The main advantage of having the newly formed blades angled from left to right from centre, is in order that the desired action of the blades would be to more efficiently slice rather than bluntly chop the hairs being shaved.
see Figure F The newly formed sloping blades would meet the hair follicles at a specific angle, no less than 5 degrees and no more than degrees therefore gently slicing the hairs instead of roughly hacking them.
e.g. much like the action of easily slicing vegetables with a knife at an angle as opposed to chopping them in a much harsher perpendicular direction 6. The blades of the Improved Safety Razor although set at an angle from the level horizontal format, see Figure E continue to retain the original forward slope of the blades (the incline rake angle i.e. from the front of each blade to the back of each blade, consequently maintaining the required forward cutting angle, as per the standard of the razor blades currently manufactured.] see Figure H 7. The 'Improved Safety Razor in accordance with this innovation, could alternatively be configured to have the top leading edge blade, set to a standard, level horizontal format, i.e. similar to the currently manufactured design therefore allowing the user to continue to shave certain areas of the face, or other parts of the user's body which require a straight line finish, e.g. the end of facial sideburns or the base of the hairline at the back of the neck of the user etc... The subsequent newly formed angled blades two, three or more, would be constructed as referred to in paragraphs 4 and 5 and Figure E of this application. Another alternative to manufacturing the newly formed angled blades in the split format, would be to manufacture the angled blades in a single piece arrangement, while maintaining the same two way angled format from left to right downwards and outwards. see Figure A 8. The main outer housing of the' Improved Safety Razor cartridge, encasing this configuration of blades, would be as per the standard units presently being manufactured, although modified in design to accept the newly angled blades see Figure G and would still retain the upper lubrication strip as well as the lower ridged rubber hair and skin levelling strip. Alternatives of this configuration would be to alter the shape of the lower and or upper parts of the housing of the razor head cartridge, to correspond with the shape of the newly formed blades, i.e. at the same sloping angles see Figure D 9. The Improved Safety Razor blades, would be manufactured using the same blade manufacturing technology as is currently being used, in conjunction with this new angled format of blade positioning and cartridge manufacture. However, when new technology has been, is being or will be developed in the manufacture of any razor blades, then the newest technology at that time should be implemented in the manufacture of the 'Improved Safety Razor product. 3/6 This invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention of which Figure A. Displays two variations of this invention as a complete unit fully assembled showing the' Improved Safety Razor 'cartridge as a finished product. Drawing a shows the newly designed blades in a SPLIT ANGLED format. Drawing b shows the newly designed blades in a SINGLE PIECE ANGLED format.

B 1 is the lubrication strip, as per the original current razor blade constructions.
B 2 is the top blade which has been retained as a straight and horizontal piece for the reasons as explained in paragraph 7 B 3 and B 4 are the newly designed blades in the SPLIT ANGLED format.
B 5 are the split format ridged rubber hair and skin levelling strips.
B 6 is the newly designed cartridge housing, to conform with the newly designed angled blades.

C 6 is the newly designed cartridge housing, to conform with the newly designed angled blades.

Is a frontal elevation of the Improved Safety Razor blade cartridge, showing the assembly of the blades D 3 in an alternative design with all blades one, two or more, constructed with an angled configuration. The outer housing cartridge, in this case, could also be designed to conform at the top D 1 as well as the bottom D 2 to the angled shape of the new blade configurations. The lubrication strip D 4 would also be designed to conform with the angled format of the cartridge housing.

Figure H. Shows a sectional, isometric elevation of the incline i.e. rake angle H 1 of the currently manufactured blades. This angle would remain the same for the Improved Safety Razor 'blades, or could alternatively be changed before manufacture begins, if deemed necessary for the improvement of operation, following further research,.
N.B. The diagrams depicted in this application do not show the full cartridge construction. Only the main housing of the cartridge is shown and the unit normally attached to the back, which connects the head to the handle has been omitted, for the purpose of simplicity in these drawings) as the connecting unit would be identical to the present unit on the currently produced cartridges and therefore is not required to show the primary operation of this invention. i

Claims (6)

1. An' Improved Safety Razor 'blade cartridge, comprising of one leading edge blade (top identical to the form of the currently manufactured, level horizontal blade cartridges. The subsequent (lower) blades, two, three or more, would be constructed in the newly designed angled format, i.e. peaking at the centre of the blade and sloping down at angles of no less than five 5 and no more than thirty 30 degrees towards the left and right ends of the razor blade cartridge housing. [see Figure E
2. An Improved Safety Razor blade as claimed in claim 1, alternatively comprising evey blade one, two, or more, to be constructed in the newly designed, angled format, either in split configurations or in single piece configurations. see paragraph 7 or Figure A
3. An' Improved Safety Razor 'blade cartridge, according to any claims 1 and 2, wherein the housing of the razor blade cartridge would be shaped to correspond with the angles of the blades, thereby retaining the necessary clearances between each blade and between the blades and the housing of the cartridge. This would allow the cartridge to operate at the optimum level of performance.
4. An Improved Safety Razor blade cartridge, substantially as herein before described with reference to details as described in Figures from A to H of the accompanying drawings.
An Improved Safety Razor blade cartridge, substantially as herein before described comprising of any configuration of slanted blades in relation to and in accordance with any and all specific or non specific design registrations and or patent applications as previously certified and to be certified by any relevant authorities in all countries as referred to in this application.
6. The Improved Safety Razor blade configuration could be produced and assembled in a slightly modified version of the housing of the currently manufactured Safety Razor Cartridge. This would be a conciliation in setting up tooling costs however this might not be the preferred approach to the manufacture of this innovation, due to the fact that the full efficiency of the Improved Safety Razor' could be compromised.
