Abstract

The invention relates to a method for marking objects that have, in at least one spectral region from UV to IR, a penetration depth for light from this spectral region of at least several millimeters. According to this method, the material is altered without changing the periphery of the object by irradiating processing light, which is focussed with a large aperture angle, inside said object. The material is altered in order to produce at least one marker inside the object that can be detected by an observer or a testing device. The invention is characterized in that at least one marking has a multitude of smallest information elements, which contain additional information used for identifying the respective object and, together, form at least portions of the marking.
