Abstract

The object of the application is an electrically operating contact mat which triggers a switching pulse that can be transmitted externally in the event of a change in the distance between its lower supporting surface (2) and its upper covering surface (1). Essentially, it is characterised in that, between the lower supporting surface and the upper covering surface, there are arranged a number of electrical switches (4, 5) which operate in the same sense in the event of changes to the distance between the two surfaces and are connected in a circuit containing a current source (6) and a signal generator (7). The upper covering surface and the lower supporting surface are preferably two plates of elastic material into which are embedded, in a largely even distribution, a large number of particles of electrically conductive material, each of which is provided with a perforated film of electrically non-conductive, elastic material. When no load is applied, these two plates are at a predetermined distance from one another (open switch position); on the other hand, when they are loaded, they move so far towards each other that a contact occurs facilitating the current flow (closed switch position). <IMAGE>
