Abstract

The thread tensioner assembly (9), for a sewing machine, has a carrier plate (12) for two tensioners (17,18) for the upper thread (10). A release lever (31) is linked to the carrier plate, which can be brought against the tensioner release pin (30) by an electromagnet (36). The lever is moved along a swing path by the linear drive (35) in discrete steps to bear against the first thread tensioner (18) followed by pressure against the second thread tensioner (17). The linear drive operation is set by a control which sets the level of current supply to the electromagnet.
