Abstract

The short-circuit device (3) has a switch element responding to a release signal for operation of a fault recognition device, received between a pair of current electrodes. The switch element is provided by a triggerable overvoltage protection device responding to a current or voltage pulse and destroyed in the event of a fault. At least one of its electrodes is mechanically pre-stressed for movement in the direction of the other electrode to provide a short-circuit, the electrodes held apart by the overvoltage protection device. An independent claim for an operating method for a short-circuit device is also included.
