Rapid regulator for electrical systems.
The invention relates to high-speed regulators for electrical systems and has a simple and very effective regulator of the type in which regulation takes place by setting the field loading of a dynamo machine.
According to the present invention, an acceleration in the action of regulators of the specified type is achieved in that the regulator acts both on the field of the exciter in a manner known per se, and at the same time a short circuit to a resistor in series with the field winding of the main generator is on and off.
In this way it is achieved that the voltage of the main generator is not entirely dependent on the changes caused in the field circuit of the exciter i: 1t; rather, the resistance and the current strength in the field circuit of the main generator are changed directly and therefore quickly to a certain extent by the regulator in accordance with the instantaneous state of the mains circuit.
The invention is illustrated in the drawings in exemplary embodiments. 1 is a schematic view of a distribution network according to an embodiment of the invention, while FIG. 2 shows a diagram of a modified embodiment.

this is by no means essential, somewhat dampened by a buffer 19.
The contacts li and L8 are connected to the terminals of a resistor 20, which is located in the excitation circuit of the main generator: the resistance is dimensioned in such a way that the voltage of the main generator is increased by closing and opening a short-circuit current circuit parallel to it through the contacts li and 18 only changes by a small percentage.
In practice, it is advantageously adjusted so that the change in voltage is approximately up to 2%.

EMI2.4
As shown, the winding 22 receives an excitation which is proportional to the mains voltage and thereby causes oscillations of the contact element 13, which are in accordance with the voltage fluctuations.
It is clear, however, that the circuit can also, if necessary, be such that the position of the contact member 13 in accordance with the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Changes in any other electrical quantity changes. The contact 12 is resiliently mounted, for example by being attached to the free end of a leaf spring.
The mode of operation of the regulator is such that the contact 13 comes into and out of contact alternately with the contact 12, and this happens in accordance with the fluctuations in the voltage or any other selected electrical quantity of the network; As a result, the relay contacts 10 and 18 are brought into and out of contact with the relevant contacts 9 and 17 in a corresponding manner, so that short-circuit circuits to the resistors 8 and 20 are alternately opened and closed.
The regulator strives to change the field excitation of the exciter machine by means of the relay contacts 9 and 10, so that it compensates for the voltage or other changes in the network. Due to the inductance of the field windings of the exciter and of the main generator, however, the voltage changes of the main generator would not proceed with sufficient rapidity if the resistor 20 and that through the relay were not alternately
EMI3.1
As a result of the opening and closing of the circuit short-circuiting the resistor 20, the voltage changes of the main generator do not depend entirely on the changes in the field strength of the exciter, but are partly
and much more rapidly caused by the immediate changes in resistance and current in the field circuit of the main generator. Large voltage fluctuations and pendulum phenomena are avoided, so that the control is quick and effective.
The system shown in Figure 2 is similar to that just explained; however, there is still a device for the same to automatically adjust the size of the resistor 8 depending on the value of the exciter voltage; This device comprises a number of relay switches 25, 26 and 27 which are closed one after the other when the exciter voltage rises, whereby partial resistances of the rheostat 8 are short-circuited one after the other.
According to the drawing, the various windings used to operate the relays are provided with a gradually increasing number of turns in order to close the switches one after the other; the windings are in series between the terminals of the exciter, although any other circuit could be used to achieve the same effect.
By using these relays, the voltage fluctuations that are caused by the regulator itself during the suppression of the changes in the voltage caused by load changes etc. are reduced, since with higher field excitations, where the fluctuations would otherwise be extraordinarily noticeable, the size of the resistance in the field excitation circuit of the exciter in which the resistance
