Description
2 AT 505 417B12 AT 505 417B1
The invention relates to a device for decoupling voltage sources by means of semiconductor elements, in particular transistors, wherein each at least one transistor operated in the inverse direction is connected in series with an inverse diode between source and drain with a voltage source.
In the simplest case, diodes are used to decouple DC power supplies or to rectify AC voltages, via which the voltage sources supply a load accordingly. The decoupling of several DC voltage sources is used in particular to be able to supply the load with DC voltage even if one of the feeding sources fails, collapses or the like. A possible return current through the failed or collapsed source is prevented via the diodes and the load can on the be supplied to other sources. The same type is the problem even with conventional DC sources when using one or more diodes for rectifying AC voltages. A disadvantage of these applications is mainly the voltage drop and the associated power loss at the diodes, which can not be avoided due to design.
Alternative ways of decoupling or rectifying exist in the use of relays, however, which have high switching times, which can result in a voltage drop across the load during the response time of the relay. In addition, this principle is not suitable for rectifying AC voltages due to the high switching times and switching frequencies.
For this reason, it has also been proposed to use field effect transistors operating according to the synchronous rectifier principle for decoupling or rectification, in which case the field effect transistors are operated in the inverse direction. If a current flow occurs via the inverse diode, the field effect transistor is switched on, thereby short-circuiting its own inverse diode and opening the field effect transistor. With suitable dimensioning, the voltage drop at the decoupling or rectifying element drops significantly below a value that would be present when using a diode. If the current threatens to reverse through the field effect transistor, the field effect transistor is switched off again and the current flow is prevented. When using commercially available n-channel field-effect transistors, a gate voltage is to be applied, which is typically to be greater than 5 volts with respect to the source in order to reliably turn on the field-effect transistor. This is also the obvious disadvantage of this method, because this auxiliary supply voltage is often not readily available. Especially with a short circuit at the load, the voltage at the source is reduced to typically a few hundred millivolts. This is not sufficiently high as the input voltage for the circuit to generate the required gate voltage and to effectively turn on the field effect transistor. Thus, the current in turn flows exclusively through the inverse diodes, which this circuit would also have the aforementioned disadvantages of the diodes when the load collapses. Such decoupling or rectifier units are therefore again not self-sufficient operable and require an external power supply.
Based on this prior art, the present invention seeks to provide a device for decoupling voltage sources, which is autonomously operable and thereby has a compared to the prior art significantly reduced power dissipation.
The invention achieves this object by providing a second transistor in series with the first transistor operated in the inverse direction, whose inverse diode is antiserially aligned with the inverse diode of the first transistor, that a capacitor which can be charged by the voltage source via a valve circuit is arranged in front of the transistors which is connected as a voltage source at least to the gate of the second transistor.
The second transistor whose inverse diode is antiserially aligned to the inverse diode of the first transistor 3 AT 505 417 B1, is always open, so always interrupts a current flow when the supply voltage is not sufficiently high or collapses. This may be the case, for example, in the event of a short-circuit at the load or during a run-up of the load, in particular when capacitive loads have to be supplied. In this case, the voltage source may charge the capacitor via the valve circuit, usually a diode or the like, until enough voltage is available to switch the second transistor. The voltage drop across the transistors can be kept small by suitable dimensioning, so that the provision of a second transistor is not to be regarded as disadvantageous. With a device according to the invention for the decoupling of voltage sources, by means of operating according to the synchronous rectifier principle transistors, it is now possible over the prior art to be able to dispense with an additional power supply for the transistor and to create a self-sufficient device. Even with the provision of the second, to the first transistor-serial transistor in connection with the provision of an auxiliary voltage source, which is supplied by the same voltage source as the load, the realization of a self-sufficient system is possible, which causes only low power losses. If the voltage at the load collapse, at least the second transistor is kept on until no sufficient auxiliary voltage is available. When falling below the auxiliary voltage potential required to keep the transistor open, the latter is closed and the voltage source can recharge the capacitor via the valve circuit and subsequently reopen the transistor. This is particularly advantageous when the capacitor is connected with the interposition of a voltage converter to the gate of at least the second transistor, preferably also the first transistor, which preferably raises the capacitor voltage to a potential lying above the potential of the source potential. This, optionally the gates of both transistors driving, voltage converter ensures even with reduced auxiliary voltage potential for the fact that both transistors are securely closed, thus causing only low power losses. In order to be able to reliably raise the gate voltage to a potential that lies above the potential of the source terminals, it is recommended that the voltage converter is assigned a measuring device for measuring the potential applied to the source terminals. It has proven to be particularly advantageous if the first and the second transistor are connected to one another via their source terminals and if both transistors are self-blocking n-channel field-effect transistors.

Fig. 2 shows an inventive device for decoupling voltage sources.
The device of Fig. 1 comprises two voltage sources ^ and U2 which are each connected in series with a transistor Τί. Both voltage sources with the series-connected transistors Ti are in turn connected to a load RL. The transistors Ti, which are connected in the manner of a synchronous rectification, each comprise an inverse diode 2 between source S and drain D. If a current flows via the inverse diodes 2, the transistors Ti are switched on with sufficient potential difference, with the respective associated inverse diode 2 being short-circuited. With suitable dimensioning, the voltage drop across the transistor Ti acting as decoupling and rectifying element drops significantly below a value that would be present when only one diode is used. If the current threatens to reverse through the transistor, the transistor Τί is switched off. In the event that the voltage sources Ui and U2 collapse and no more required for a safe turning on of the transistors Spannung voltage can be provided more, the current is supplied only via the inverse diodes 2 to the load resistor RL, which, however, is associated with significant power losses.
