<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Fig. 2 zeigt die Gasentnahmeeinheit l ohne die die Kammer 4 umgebende Gehäusewand 5.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The invention relates to a backflushable filter device for filtering hot exhaust gases from internal combustion engines, in particular for a heatable gas extraction unit with an essentially cylindrical filter base housing and a purge air supply part connected to it.
Such backflushable filter devices are used, for example, in gas extraction units in order to be able to supply the engine exhaust gas in the filtered state to measuring devices. To avoid condensation of the exhaust gas, all exhaust gas-carrying parts, such as filter devices, shut-off valves and sample gas pumps, are arranged within a thermally insulated and heated chamber between the sample gas inlet and the sample gas outlet of the gas sampling unit. The heating takes place, for example, via the pump head of the sample gas pump. In conventional gas sampling units, known filter devices with other elements, such as valves, measuring pumps, measuring gas inputs, etc., are connected to one another via connecting lines. However, this has the disadvantage that a relatively large number of individual parts are necessary, and that the size and weight are comparatively high.
To save components and volume, it is desirable to attach the filter device directly to the heated pump head. In the known filter device of the type mentioned, this is problematic because of the necessary sealing elements between the filter housing and the purge air supply part, since the mostly elastic sealing elements are subject to rapid wear due to the high temperatures at the pump head of almost 2000 ° C. Since the sealing elements must be interchangeable, the basic filter housing and purging air supply part are detachably connected to one another, which on the one hand requires a relatively complex production and on the other hand has a disadvantageous effect on the construction volume and the number of parts.
The object of the present invention is to avoid these disadvantages and to provide a temperature-resistant filter device with as few detachable parts as possible, which is robust and compact and has the smallest possible construction volume and weight.
This is achieved according to the invention by shrinking the purge air supply part onto the filter base housing
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
is. The purge air supply part is shrunk onto the filter base housing in a conventional shrinking process, which enables a non-positive rigid connection.
Separate sealing elements are therefore no longer necessary. The filter device can thus be brought into thermal connection with parts of high temperature without any problems, without operational disturbances occurring.
The purge air supply part is preferably made of brass. If the purge air supply part has cuboidal contours, it can be mounted with a flat side surface directly on other parts, such as a pump head.
In a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the filter base housing has an annular groove in the area of the purge air supply part, which is sealed on both sides by the shrink fit surfaces of the purge air supply part and the filter base housing, the annular groove on the one hand via a radial bore in the filter base housing with a leading to the inner surface of a filter insert central space, and on the other hand is connected to a purge air connection on the purge air supply part. This enables a particularly simple manufacture of the filter device and a reliable seal between the filter housing and the purge air supply part.
The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the figure.
1 to 3 show an installation example for the filter device according to the invention, FIG. 1 a longitudinal section through a gas extraction unit together with the filter device according to line II in FIG. 2, FIG. 2 an end view of this gas extraction unit and FIG. 3 a circuit diagram of this gas extraction unit 4 shows a basic filter housing in longitudinal section along the line IV-IV in FIG. 5 of the filter device according to the invention, and FIG. 5 shows the filter device according to the invention with a shrunk purge air supply part in a partial section.
4 shows a detailed drawing of the basic filter housing 8a according to the invention in a longitudinal section, FIG. 5 shows this basic filter housing 8a in a partial section with the purge air supply part 8b shrunk on. The purge air is fed via the purge air connection 8c in the purge air supply part 8b and further via an annular duct 8d and a radial duct 8e to the central space 8f of the filter base housing 8a, from where the purge air
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
arrives in the actual filter part within the main filter 8 ′ and flows through both the main filter 8 ′ and the secondary filter 8 ″ in the radial direction and finally leaves the filter device 8 via the measurement input 12.
For the main filter 8 ′ and the secondary filter 8 ″, for example, glass fiber filters with Teflon or silica can be used as binders. The purge air supply part 8b can be fastened to the pump head 3 via the holes 8g On the one hand, a very compact and temperature-resistant design of the filter device is made possible, on the other hand, sealing elements and other connecting parts which are prone to wear can be dispensed with within the chamber 4. The shrink fit surfaces on both sides of the annular groove 8d are designated by 8h 8a "exist.
Although the advantages of the filter device according to the invention are particularly advantageous in connection with the gas extraction unit described for exhaust gases from internal combustion engines, the filter device is also suitable for other applications, for example for use in motor vehicles, in particular because of its ease of maintenance.
The advantages of the present invention are explained in more detail with reference to the application example shown in FIGS. 1 to 3.
The gas extraction unit 1 consists of a sample gas pump 2, for example a membrane pump, the pump head 3 of which is arranged in a thermally insulated chamber 4, the housing walls of which are designated by 5. The pump head 3 is heated by the heating elements 35 and kept at a predetermined temperature. The membrane 6 of the sample gas pump 2 is driven by the motor 7.
The backwashable filter device 8 according to the invention is attached directly to the pump head 3, the filter device 8 being flow-connectable to the suction channel 10 of the sample gas pump 2 via a 2/2 way valve 9 flanged to the pump head 3. With 11 a connecting sleeve between 2/2 way valve 9 and suction channel 10 is designated. During the measuring process, the gas passes through the measuring input 12, the filter device 8, the 2/2 way valve 9, the suction channel 10, the suction valve

til 13 in the pump chamber 14. From there it is via the pressure valve 15, the pressure channel 16, the measuring outputs 17, 18 and / or 19 to an NO analyzer, not shown, an HC analyzer and / or essentially one Cooler existing condensation trap promoted.
The measurement output 19 is used in particular when the exhaust gas is to be measured below the dew point by another measuring device.
In the pump head 3 are two 2/3 way valves 20 and
21 installed, which connect the measuring output 17 or 18 either with the pump chamber 14 or with a zero gas / calibration gas connection 22 or 23. Via the zero gas / calibration gas connection 22, NO zero gas or calibration gas can be supplied for calibration or calibration of the NO analyzer. The HC zero gas or calibration gas connection 23 is provided for calibration of the HC analyzer with HC zero gas / calibration gas.
The 2/3 directional control valves 20 and 21 are actuated pneumatically via the control lines 24 and 25.
If the filter device 8 consisting of a main filter 8 ′ and a secondary filter 8 ″ is backwashed, the flow connection to the pump chamber 14 is interrupted via the 2/2 way valve 9 and the blow-back line 26 is released via the blow-back valve 30 shown in FIG Filter device 8 is blown back in the direction opposite to normal operation, and a filter change may also be possible by unscrewing the filter cover 36.
The filter device 8 according to the invention is fastened to the pump head 3 via the scavenging air supply part 8b surrounding the basic filter housing 8a. The purge air supply part 8b advantageously consists of brass and is shrunk onto the basic housing 8a in a particularly space-saving manner. The direct attachment to a hot part, such as the pump head 3, is possible because the filter device 8 does not require any elastic sealing elements.
2 shows the gas sampling unit 1 without the housing wall 5 surrounding the chamber 4. Due to the compact design of the filter device 8 according to the invention, the gas sampling unit 1 can be designed with one as well as with two filter devices 8, each of which has a measuring inlet 12 and a blowback line 26 as well have a control line 27 for actuating the 2/2 way valve 9.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In the circuit diagram shown in FIG. 3, the gas extraction unit 1 is indicated within the dash-dotted line. With 28 the purge air system operating in the exemplary embodiment with a pressure between about 7 and 8 bar, with 29 the control air system for controlling the 2/2 way valves 9 and 2/3 way valves 20 and 21 are shown, with the control of the purge air lines 26 and Control air lines 27, 24 and 25 solenoid valves 30 and 31 are provided. The system pressure of the control air system is, for example, approximately 2.5 bar.
As indicated in FIGS. 2 and 3, the gas extraction unit 1 can have an external gas connection 32 on the suction side of the measuring gas pump 2, via which control gas 33 can be supplied and / or the suction side pressure can be measured via a pressure measuring device 34.
Because of the relatively high temperature inside the chamber 4 of about 191 C, in addition to the filter device 8 according to the invention, the valves, in particular the 2/3 way valves 20, 21 and the 2/2 way valves 9, must also be particularly temperature-resistant, which means that heat-resistant materials are used , for example Teflon.
