Baukastenspiel
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
--23-- der Abdeckplatten erläutert wird. Mit der oben erläuterten Folge von Verbindungszapfen bzw. --federn --29--, Vertiefungen --30-- und Abständen --31-- lassen sich auch die Rahmen unmittelbar an ihren Seiten aneinandersetzen.

Construction game
The invention relates to a building set game with building blocks and two-dimensional filling elements for filling in the open areas that arise in a skeleton construction, the building blocks essentially having the shape of a straight prism with a square cross-section and at least on the two opposite end faces formed integrally with the building block wall, are preferably provided with a square cross-section having connecting elements in the form of connector pins and connector openings.
Apart from a group of well-known building set games with pluggable building blocks, the basic structure of which is largely brick-like and which therefore result in the basic character of masonry in all models, a building set game has already become known that essentially contains cube-shaped building blocks and two-dimensional filling elements and in which the cube-shaped Building blocks are provided with a pin-like projection arranged on one side of the cube and on the opposite side of the cube with an opening that receives this pin of another building block (Austrian patent specification no. 187027). In addition, building blocks are provided in this known modular game, the additional lateral
Have connector pins that also fit into the connector opening of the blocks.
As a result, this building set game already offers a limited possibility for the replication of buildings u. Like. In frame construction. However, the building blocks of this known modular game do not have any suitable devices for holding and securing flat filling elements. The only possibility for this in this modular game is only given by the fact that the lateral connector pins are designed with a U-shaped profile and can therefore grip laterally over the edge of flat filling elements in the form of retaining tabs. However, this method of fastening for two-dimensional filling elements is only very poor and unsuitable for building models that are supposed to come close in appearance to an original building.
In addition, it is not possible in this known modular game to rebuild flat filling elements all around with building blocks.
A second group of known building block games is characterized by the use of bar-like components that are to be connected either directly or via cube-shaped components by means of pegs or pins (German Patent No. 853272, Swiss Patent No. 377558, Austrian Patent No. 93259). In modular games of this type, the bar-like components can have lateral longitudinal grooves in order to be able to use flat components such as boards or cardboard discs. These known modular games practically only allow the reproduction of half-timbered buildings or wooden structures. Replicas of works of modern architecture, for example in steel construction or replicas of civil engineering and mechanical constructions, can practically not be created with these construction kit games.
Even buildings built in a wall construction are very difficult, if at all, to reproduce with the construction kit games of this group.
In contrast, the invention is based on the object of creating a kit game that is suitable for replicating all types of construction and constructions that occur in practice, in particular machine constructions. The modular game should not be aimed at one or the other construction method from the start, but rather give the playing child the opportunity to use his
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
To develop your imagination and your interests in the construction kit game as freely as possible. In particular, the variable usability of the components and their interconnection should be significantly improved.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that at least one groove extending from one end face to the other is provided on at least one of the side surfaces of the building blocks in a manner known per se, that in a manner known per se the filling elements only have edges of the same length or have in an integral multiple of the height of the building blocks and are provided at least on parts of their circumference with connecting pins or springs to engage in the grooves or rib recesses of the building blocks and that, in a likewise known manner, cover plates with connecting pins or springs on the rear side for insertion are provided in the recesses of the blocks.
The invention ensures that the modular game is no longer restricted to just one basic design. Due to its multiple variably usable components and in particular its multiple different connection options of the various components, the modular game according to the invention offers the possibility of not only combining the most diverse construction methods within one model, but also of freely designing them independently of the known construction methods. This applies to both the replication of structures and machine structures and the like. like
It is particularly advantageous within the scope of the invention if the building blocks have a central groove extending axially from the end face to the end face of the building block in each side wall. Although this has already been provided for in the case of bar-like components in known modular games, it is of particular importance within the scope of the invention, since it enables bars or pillars to be put together from a plurality of building blocks, which apart from the longitudinal grooves in the side surfaces also have Carry out the desired locations and in the desired directions lateral plug-in connection pins to which the lateral struts or beams can be attached.
Naturally, these lateral grooves are then interrupted on the respective side wall of the building block if a lateral connecting pin is provided there. At least this side wall should then be grooved on both sides of this lateral connector pin. Through the connector pins and connector openings on the one hand and the lateral grooves on the other hand, it is possible to build a stable basic skeleton of various types and shapes with the building blocks, for example for a building, a vehicle or a machine and to form openings of various shapes and types within this basic skeleton, whereby all of these openings have a circumferential groove in the peripheral surface that surrounds them and is formed by the building blocks, in order to be able to securely and firmly receive a flat filling element.
Furthermore, it is particularly advantageous within the scope of the invention if the rib recesses are formed in the plane of the plug connection openings of the building blocks corresponding to the lateral grooves for the engagement of the connecting pins or springs of the filling elements and the cover plates.
As a result, the building blocks can be assembled in any conceivable position, so that even then flat filling elements can easily be inserted into such an opening, in the peripheral edge of which building blocks are located with their plug connection opening. This also makes it possible to insert building blocks into a basic skeleton in such a position that they are exposed to the outside with a connector opening. These plug connection openings, which are exposed on the outside in a model, offer the possibility of adding further model parts later. However, they can be closed at any time by cover plates for a better appearance.
Although the plug-in connections between the building blocks allow a certain elastic deformation in the modular game according to the invention, it is useful within the scope of the invention if some building blocks are provided in a known manner with mutually inclined end faces and two coaxially curved opposite side faces in order to be used as To serve arched building blocks, the plug-in connection elements being arranged in a likewise known manner with their plug-in axis at right angles to the respective building block surface carrying them. Since the basic dimensions of these arch stones are largely approximated to the cube shape of the other building blocks, they can be used in any desired combination between the cube-shaped building blocks, so that practically any desired spatial arch shape can be reproduced.
An embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings. 1 shows a module with a plug connection pin on one end face and a plug connection opening on the other end, as well as a lateral plug connection pin in: a) side view, b) top view, c) bottom view and d) vertical section; Fig. 2 further modules according to

designed with a square cross-section, so that a non-rotatable connection results when the pins --2,4-- and plug connection openings --8-- are plugged together and the grooves --3-- of the plugged-together building blocks continue in a straight line.
To guide the pins in the connector opening --8-- of the building blocks, guide ribs --7-- are provided there, which enable the building blocks to be easily plugged together and taken apart without tilting.
As FIGS. 1c and 3 show, the guide ribs --7-- are located inside the building block body --1-- in the same area as the outer grooves. This results in a cross section of the building block body --1-- with particularly good resilience Characteristics. The guide ribs - 7 - grip the surface of the plug connection pins - 2 or 4 - in a clamping and resilient manner and thus form particularly stable plug connections.
In the area of the connector opening - 8 - these ribs 7 recesses - which have the same width as the grooves --3--. These recesses --9 - make it possible to insert the cover plates explained later with their retaining web into the connector opening --8-- of the building blocks.
The main pin-2 or. the middle wall --12-- of the building blocks is provided with a round, axially continuous opening --5-- through which a pin can be guided, especially as a rotatable axle pin.
As shown in FIG. 1d, the secondary journals --4-- are made in one piece with the building block body - 1--. To save material and to make it easier to manufacture from plastic, the secondary pins --4-- are also hollow. However, the secondary pegs 4 - are closed at the front by a wall in order to give them the desired stability compared to the guide ribs - 7 - the connector openings - 8 -.
As an example of a special module, FIG. 5 shows half a module, i.e. H. a normal module according to FIG. 4a, however, with only half the height of the module body - 1 -, with a plug-in connector pin at the end and a connector opening opposite it as in a module according to FIG. 4a.
As a further example of a special module, an arched stone is shown in FIG. 4, which differs from the normal module shown in FIG. 4a in that the end face carrying the plug connection pin --2-- and the one with the plug connection opening --8--

while the axis of the plug connection opening - 8 - and the guide and clamping ribs contained therein - 7 - is perpendicular to the opening face. In this way it is achieved that the arch stones can be inserted unhindered into a model frame constructed with normal modules (Fig. 4) and connecting stones (Fig. 1 to 3).
The stability of the connection between arch stone and arch stone or arch stone and building block of another type is just as great as the connection stability between the normal building blocks and connecting stones.
As an example of two-dimensional filling elements, a set of plastic frames - 25, 26, 27 and 28 - is shown in FIG. In the example shown, this set contains four plastic frames of different sizes - 25, 26, 27 and 28 - whose side lengths are matched to one another, and in such a way that the shorter side of the smallest frame --25 - is the same size as the height of the building block body - 1 -. The longer side of the smallest frame --25-- is twice as large as the shorter side. The larger frames - 26, 27 and 28d 28-- have side lengths which, as integer multiples, can be traced back to the length of the shorter side of the frame and thus to the height of the building block body --1--.
This means that every frame and every combination of such frames can be completely rebuilt with modules.
In the example shown, the connecting pins or springs - 29 - are in a novel manner forming part of a separate invention on the frame circumference in a uniform, shorter side

--25-- the same consequences26-of Fig. 7 is indicated. Between such a recess --30-- and the next web-like connecting pin --29-- there is a distance --31-- smooth surface. With these web-like connecting pins or springs --- 29-- the frames - 25, 26, 27 and 28 - engage in the grooves of the building block structure surrounding them.
The connecting pins or springs --29-- can also be inserted into the rib recesses --9-- in the plug-in connection opening --8- of the building blocks, as will also be done later in detail for the rear connecting springs
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
--23-- the cover plates is explained. With the sequence of connecting pins or springs --29--, depressions --30-- and spaces --31-- explained above, the frames can also be attached to one another directly on their sides.
As Fig. 9 shows, the frames --25,26,27 and 28-- can contain an additional, if necessary, pivotable filling plate --32-- which can be locked in its normal position.
Fig. 8 shows some examples of cover plates for the building blocks. The size of these cover plates is such that they correspond either (plate --21--) to the cube area of a building block or (plate - 22--) to the rectangular area of two building blocks plugged together. On their rear side, the cover plates --21 or 22 - have at least one connecting spring -23--, which in its width corresponds to the grooves --3-- or the rib recesses --9-- in the connector opening --8-- the Blocks corresponds. The effective length of this connecting spring - 23 - corresponds to the distance between two diametrically opposite rib recesses --9-- a plug connection opening --8--.
As a result, the cover plates with their connecting spring - 23 - can either be inserted in a groove - 3 - or in two diametrically opposed rib recesses --9-- a plug connection opening --8-.
The rectangular cover plates --22-- can carry one or two connecting springs --23--. The connecting spring 23 can extend, as shown in FIG. 8a, in the longitudinal direction of the rectangular plates or, as shown in FIG. 8b, in the transverse direction of the rectangular plates. As shown in the example of FIG. 8f, a rectangular plate --22-- can be provided with a connecting spring in the longitudinal direction and a connecting spring - 23 - extending in the transverse direction.
In the area of the connecting springs -23- the cover plates -21 or 22 -as Fig. 8f and 8e show-be provided with slots -23 '-which correspond to the connecting springs -23- in their dimensions and intersect centrally with the respective connecting spring, so that a cover plate with its connecting spring - 23 - can be inserted into the slot - 23 '- of another cover plate. As shown in FIGS. 8h and 8i, the cover plate --21 or 22 - also in the area of its connecting spring - 23 - can be provided with a bore --5 '- which, in its diameter of the bore - 5 - in the plug connection pin on the front - 2 - corresponds to the building blocks.
This hole - 5 '- can be used to guide axle pins or the like through the cover plates. In a modular game, cover plates of all the types described can be provided.
In addition, the thickness of the cover plate - 21 or 22 - can also correspond to the width of the groove --3-- so that the cover plate can also be inserted into the groove - 3-- with one side edge.
The construction example shown in Fig. 9 shows as the middle element a frame-27-, which has been surrounded all around with building blocks-1. On the right-hand side of FIG. 9, a module according to FIG. 2a is arranged with its plug connection opening -8- after the frame -27-so that the one on the periphery of the frame -27- in the area of this module Lying connecting pin --29-- protrudes into the plug connection opening of this module or engages in one of the rib recesses - -9-- of this plug connection opening.
The building blocks with which the frame 27 is built around are covered on the outer surface with cover plates 21, the connecting spring of which engages in the groove of the building blocks 1 on the outside. If it is desired to form a smooth surface, the frame can, despite its filling element --32--, also be covered with a cover plate --27 '- whose outer surface is then flush with the outer surface of the cover plates --21-- . This cover plate --27 '- is provided with a circumferential connecting spring - 29' - which engages in the frame - 27 -.
The building example shown in FIG. 10 could be a replica of a high-rise hotel with a row of shops on the ground floor. The construction example shows the very wide range of possible uses of the frames --25, 26, 27-- provided in the above-described modular game as filling elements. With the building blocks - 1 - the skeleton of the model is formed which accommodates the filling elements and which can also carry approaches such as the balconies-57- and the entrance roofing -58-. If desired, parts of this skeleton can be clad with cover plates --21,22 -.
The example shown in Fig. 10 is shown in half size when the basic dimensions of the modular game, d. H. the length of the cube edge or the height of the building block body --1-- is selected to be 1 cm. Such a choice is particularly favorable because it enables the construction of scale models. As Fig. 10 shows, the modular game according to the invention is particularly suitable

for largely lifelike and shapely replicas of buildings, especially modern architecture. However, models of engineering structures and, above all, models of a mechanical engineering type can also be produced just as well.
