achieve a good degree of crystallization. Moldings with a good degree of crystallization are dimensionally stable even above the freezing temperature and do not shrink. In a known manner, finely divided inorganic substances which are insoluble in the polyester molding compounds, such as calcium carbonate, aluminum silicate or talc, can be used as nucleating agents.
Polyethylene glycol terephthalate is preferably used as the linear saturated polyester of aromatic dicarboxylic acids. It is also possible to use other polyesters, for example polycyclohexane-1,4-dimethylol terephthalate. Modified polyethylene terephthalates can also be used which, in addition to terephthalic acid, contain other aromatic or aliphatic dicarboxylic acids as basic units, e.g. B. isophthalic acid, naphthalenedicarboxylic acid-2, 6 or adipic acid and / or in addition to ethylene glycol also contain other diols such as 1,4-butanediol or neopentyl glycol. Polyesters with a reduced specific viscosity between 1.0 and 1.4 are particularly suitable.
It is also possible to start from polyesters with a lower, reduced specific viscosity and to bring about the desired higher viscosity through post-condensation during the mixing process.
As polymers of esters of acrylic, meth- or ethacrylic acid, numerous polymers can be used which are prepared by known processes. The saturated aliphatic alcohol radicals in the polymers preferably contain 4 to 16 carbon atoms. The aliphatic alcohol radicals can be straight-chain or branched. Copolymers of various polyacrylic acid esters or polyalkacrylic acid esters can also be mixed with the polyesters. Mixtures of different polyacrylic acid esters or polyalkacrylic acid esters can also be used.
The polyester molding compositions according to the invention contain 0.05 to 25 parts by weight, preferably 0.2 to 10% by weight, of the polyacrylic or polyalkacrylic acid esters.
The polyacrylic acid ester or polyalkacrylic acid ester can be mixed in with the polyester composition in various ways. For example, the polyacrylic acid ester and the polyester can be mixed by vigorously stirring the melt; if necessary, the melt is stirred in vacuo until the desired reduced specific viscosity is reached.
Powdered polyacrylic acid esters can also be mixed as uniformly as possible with polyester powder or polyester granulate, melted in the extruder, pressed out with cooling and granulated.
The polyester molding compositions obtained by the above process can, if desired, be post-condensed in the solid phase, it being possible to obtain polyester compositions with particularly high molecular weights.
Nucleating agents such as calcium carbonate, aluminum silicate, titanium dioxide, talc or carbon black can be added to the molding compositions according to the invention. The nucleating agent can be added at various points in the production process for the polyester molding compositions. For example, the nucleating agent can be added before or during the polycondensation during the production of the polyester. The nucleating agent can also be mixed with the polyester together with the polyacrylic acid ester or polyalkacrylic acid ester. Furthermore, the granulated polyester molding composition can be treated with the nucleating agent in a rotating vessel, if appropriate melted in the extruder, pressed out with cooling and granulated again.
The polyester molding composition should contain as little moisture as possible, preferably less than 0.01% by weight.
To keep moisture absorption low, the granulated polyester molding compound can be treated with a coating of an inert hydrophobic substance such as paraffin or wax.
In order to obtain moldings with a sufficient degree of crystallization, it is advisable to keep the mold temperature sufficiently high above the glass transition temperature.
The polymer mixtures according to the invention can be processed thermoplastically to form dimensionally stable moldings which are unexpectedly distinguished by a considerably increased impact strength,

and granulated. The polyester granulate was rolled for 1 hour at 100 ° C. and a pressure of 0.5 mm Hg and then for 6 hours at 2400 ° C. and a pressure of 0.5 mm Hg. The granules were finally rolled with 12 g of paraffin (dropping point 560 ° C.) for 2 hours at 90 ° C. Dimensionally stable panels measuring 60 x 60 x 1 mm were injection molded from the material at a mold temperature of 1500C. The impact strength of the panels was tested by a drop test.
The test plates were subjected to an impact load in such a way that a falling body sliding on low-friction rails was dropped from different heights perpendicularly onto the plates stretched on a frame. The tip of the drop hammer represented a hemisphere with a radius of 10 mm. 10 plates were tested per height.
In a comparative experiment, the polyethylene terephthalate was treated as described above, with the difference that no poly-2-ethylhexyl acrylate was added. The results of the drop test are summarized in the table.
Example 2: 3960 g of polyethylene terephthalate (reduced specific viscosity 0.83 dl / g, measured on a 1% in solution in phenol / tetrachloroethane 60:40 at 25 C) were with 40 g of poly-2- ethylhexyl acrylate as described in Example 1 in the Melt mixed. The further processing of the polyester molding compound and the addition of 6.0 g of aluminum silicate powder and 12.0 g of paraffin took place as described in Example 1. The result of the drop test is shown in the table.
Example 3: 3380 g of polyethylene terephthalate (reduced specific viscosity 0.83 dl / g, measured on a 1% in solution in phenol / tetrachloroethane 60:40 at 250C) were mixed with 120 g of poly-n-octyl acrylate as described in Example 1 in the melt mixed. The polyester molding compound was further processed as described in Example 1. 6.0 g of aluminum silicate powder were used for nucleation. The finished polyester granulate was coated with 12.0 g of paraffin. The test was carried out as in Example 1.
