Branch coupling for electrical cables.
The present invention relates to a branch coupling for sheathed electrical cable lines and has the purpose of creating a coupling which enables an electrical cable to be quickly connected to any number of branches without having to cut through the wire lines of the cable and without grinding or rubbing the wires.
The accompanying drawings serve to illustrate such a coupling. Fig. 1 is a view of the same, Fig. 2 is a section along the line 2-2 in Fig. 1 and Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 6 show individual parts of the coupling. The electrical cable (FIG. 1) consists of a number of strands which are surrounded by an insulating sheath 2. The present coupling, after the insulating sleeve has been removed by a distance corresponding to the coupling width, is placed on both sides of the exposed line and fastened. One coupling half consists of a channel-shaped part 3, on the outer surfaces of which the lugs 4 are arranged. This part is in one piece with the screw-wound tube 5 or is connected to the same.
The lugs 4 sit on surfaces 6 that are inclined towards each other and fit into openings or cutouts 7 of a second coupling part S to be pushed on the opposite side of the cable 1. The cutouts 7 are located in the side surfaces of this part, which is made of relatively thin metal and must be elastic enough to allow itself to be pulled over the lugs 4 and then, after these lugs engage in the cutouts 7, to spring back and lie firmly.
The inner surface of the coupling part 8 fits exactly on the curve of the cable, so that an intimate

fits a trough-shaped or channel-shaped shell 9, the inner surface of which forms a tube for receiving the cable together with the inner surface of the coupling part 8, while the outer shape of this insert 9 is angular and, as mentioned, corresponds exactly to the inner surface of the piece 3. On one side of the inner channel-shaped insert 9, a plate 10 is arranged, which is provided with lugs or projections 11; the latter pass through openings which are arranged in the upper coupling part 3 partially or entirely outside the tube 5 provided with screw threads.
The use of the branch coupling is as follows: The channel-shaped insert. is pushed into the coupling part 3 so that the lugs 11 outside the tube. 5 protrude. Then the other coupling part 8 is pulled over the lugs 4 until its cutouts 7 overlap the lugs 4. A screw nut is then screwed onto the outside of the pipe until. the same presses on the lugs 11, 11 in such a way that a firm contact is brought about on the one hand between the inner insert 9 and the cable and on the other hand between the latter and the adjoining insert 8.
By using appropriate tools, the nut can be tightened very strongly and consequently a very firm, intimate contact

connection between 'the pipe 5 and a branch line is then easy to establish'; It is recommended that a corresponding part of the tube 5 above the screw nut 1.8 remains free so that the desired branch connection can be easily achieved, the electrical connection between the main and branch cables being established by the metal body of the coupling.
For double branch couplings, the overlapping part 8 is molded in one piece with a threaded pipe 14 so that a connection can then be made to a second branch pipe by means of the latter using the means described above.

Weather conditions and is protected against other damage.
The fact that two overlapping coupling parts 3 and 8 of significant and substantially the same length are arranged on the diametrically opposite sides of the cable and that the pressing takes place radially against the cable, a good electrical contact is achieved over a wide area without any Abrasion or abrasion of the cable or distortion of the same takes place.
