Fig. 1).

Device for clamping down workpieces, in particular
Logs

<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
An eccentric eye 1 denotes the two-armed gripping lever that is pivotably arranged on the support 2 by means of an axis 3. The support 2 is vertically adjustable along the clamping bracket 4. For this purpose, the support pushed onto the clamping block has sliding surfaces 5, 6, to which sliding surfaces 7, 8 provided on the clamping block 4 are assigned. The lengths of the sliding surfaces 5, 6 of the support 2 are relatively small in relation to the width b of the clamping bracket, whereby a correspondingly large clamping torque occurs when a force pushing the free end l * of the gripping lever 1 upwards between the support 2 and the clamping bracket 4 , which prevents an adjustment of the support on the clamping block.
The sliding surfaces also serve as clamping surfaces. The gripping lever 1 can be pressed by means of the clamping lever 9 articulated to the support 2 with its free end 1 'on the workpiece not shown in the drawing, for example on the log introduced into a cutting machine, whereby the latter is clamped down. The clamping lever 9 is in an articulated connection with the support 2 via a support strut 10 which is hinged on the one hand to the one clamping lever end 9 'and on the other hand to the support 2. A bracing strut 11 protrudes from the clamping lever end 9', over which the clamping lever with the gripping lever 1 is articulated. The support strut end 10 ′ articulated on the tensioning lever 9 is designed as a cylindrical joint head which is supported in a joint socket 12 provided on the tensioning lever.
In an analogous manner, the brace end 11 ′ hinged on the gripping lever is also designed as a cylindrical joint head which is pushed into a joint socket 13 provided on the gripping lever. Support strut 10 and brace 11 are secured against further rotation with respect to the support 2 or the gripping lever l immediately after passage through their mutual extended position achievable by actuating the tensioning lever 9, u. between the limiting edges 14 and 15 of the ih-

Support 2 provided joint socket 18, in which the other support strut end 10 ″ is mounted, the pivoting up of the clamping lever 9 is also limited (see FIG. 1). When the clamping lever is pivoted up, the free end 1 ′ of the gripping lever 1 having the gripping claw is also pivoted up.
The support strut 10 and the pivot axis 3 of the gripping lever 1 are provided on the support 2 on opposite sides with respect to the clamping block 4 encompassed by the gripping lever. The sliding and clamping surface 5 of the support strut 10 and gripping lever axis 3, which cooperates with the sliding surface 7 of the clamping bracket 4, has an extension 5 ′ which protrudes downwards compared to the other sliding and clamping surface 6 of the support and which, with regard to the clamping bracket 4, is on the same Side as the pivot axis 3 of the gripping lever 1 lies. On the sliding and clamping surface extension 5 ′ there is provided a pusher 20 which is urged against the clamping block 4 by means of a spring 19.
The frictional engagement between this pusher and the sliding surface 7 of the clamping block 4 prevents the support 2 and the parts provided on it from falling automatically.
By undertaking with one hand at the point marked A and pushing it up along the clamping block 4, the support 2 can easily be brought into a position that enables the workpiece, for example the tree trunk, to be brought under the gripping lever l.
The sliding and clamping surface extension 5 ′ prevents the support from tilting with the clamping bracket 4, which prevents it from being pushed upwards, and in the raised position the support is then held in place by the frictional connection between the pusher 20 and the sliding surface 7, so that the hand moves from the spot A removed and placed on point B of the gripping lever 1 from above in order to depress the latter together with the support until the workpiece held by the other hand is gripped by the gripping lever. Even when the gripping lever is depressed, the sliding and clamping surface extension 5 ′ prevents the support from tilting with the clamping block.
As soon as the gripping lever 1 rests on the workpiece, the clamping lever 9 is pivoted downwards; whereby the gripping lever penetrates the tree trunk with its claw and clamps it down and fixes it so that it can be hewn or otherwise processed. Support strut 10 and brace 11 have been pivoted beyond their mutual extended position into the position shown in FIG. 3, in which they are held by the boundary edges 14,15 of the joint sockets 12,13, whereby the support and gripping lever are mutually braced.
Dodging the support upwards is not possible, since the reaction force acting upwards at the free end of the gripping lever 1 emits a torque on the support that clamps it to the clamping bracket 4, especially when the relevant clamping torque is transmitted to the clamping bracket and clamping surface extension 5 'is not effective because it tends to move away from the clamping block so that only the upper end of the sliding and clamping surface 5 and the lower end of the sliding and clamping surface 6 of the support 2 are in contact with it Ends are only slightly offset from one another in terms of height.
Is the tree trunk to be clamped down or the other workpiece particularly soft or otherwise

resilient, so that a single actuation of the clamping lever cannot achieve sufficient clamping, then you lift the clamping lever again with one hand, while at the same time pressing down the gripping lever and thus the support at point B with the other hand, whereupon the clamping lever is depressed pivots down a second time in order to finally clamp down the workpiece properly.
The device according to the invention enables the workpiece to be clamped down extremely quickly and effortlessly and, in particular, when used on woodworking machines, where quick clamping and releasing is particularly important, a considerable increase in production.
