Gewindebohrer
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Taps
The invention relates to taps and has as its object a special design of the active part of the tap.
Apart from the usual taps, the effective part of which is cylindrical and provided with a thread interrupted by longitudinal grooves in such a way that face cutting surfaces arise in the thread, slotless taps are also known. The thread of these taps is uninterrupted over the entire circumference and in the entire length of the effective part and has the same depth over the entire circumference. The thread is undercut several times on the circumference in the radial direction, so that the cross-section of the entire tap including the core is out of round.
This design, which has the advantage of the back-turned working profile, has a disadvantage
EMI1.1
the most diverse metalworking tools.
The tap according to the present invention eliminates this disadvantage and is characterized in that the profile of the thread on the circumference of the drill is back-turned in such a way that its height changes from a minimum to the height of the nominal cross-section, the cross-section of the core remaining unchanged.
By designing according to the invention, a reduction in the friction in the production of the thread is achieved without reducing the strength of the tap. The influence of the notches formed by the thread is also significantly reduced.
The inventive screw tap is used for the non-cutting production of threads in thin and thick sheet metal, also in blind holes, especially in easily deformable material such. B. aluminum, determined.
The object of the invention is shown in the drawing, where FIG. 1 shows the cross section through the tap, FIG. 2 shows a detail of a "drill tooth", FIG. 3 shows an advantageous overall arrangement of the teeth on the drill and FIG. 4 shows a side view.
The tap according to the present invention has an effective part, which consists of a core 1 and threaded parts 2, hereinafter referred to as "teeth".
The thread is interrupted because it arises from a full thread z. B. in that parts of the thread are removed by mechanical or other processing, so that individual projections - the "teeth" arise. It is of course possible to use the thread in this form, for. B. can also be produced by plastic molding. Otherwise the thread has a normal profile and pitch, as with known taps.
In the plane running through its vertical axis, the tooth 2 has a profile consisting of three parts, the height of which varies from zero or a suitable minimum value to the nominal thread height towards both sides. For the sake of better clarity, the thread is viewed as running in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tap.
The profile of the tap in this plane is formed by three parts - approach 2a, full profile 2b and back 2c.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The approach 2a, which represents the effective part of the tap in its work, is geometrical, e.g. B. formed as part of a circle whose center is outside the drill axis; however, the curve can also have a shape other than that mentioned.
The full profile 2b (calibration part) is the part that has a full height, i.e. H. a full thread profile. This part advantageously forms a maximum of 20% of the total length of the profile.
The back 2c is shorter than the run-up and its curve can also have the shape of a part of a circle or some other shape that is common with so-called back-turned teeth. The inside diameter of the hole in which the thread is to be made is indicated by the dashed line
Circle 3 drawn.
The individual teeth are either arranged one behind the other in the direction of the drill axis, i. H. they coincide, or they are advantageously shifted against each other in such a way that they form an imaginary spiral on the surface of the tap, or the spaces between the individual teeth represent spiral "grooves" which just form the teeth, i.e. H. Either an undivided number of teeth can be omitted for the length of a thread or, advantageously, a fraction of the teeth, i. H. the teeth repeat in the spiral (see Fig. 3).
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Taps with a thread profile interrupted on the circumference, characterized in that the height of the individual teeth (2) formed between interruptions varies from a minimum value to the height of the nominal diameter, while maintaining the circular cross-section of the core (1).
