Die Schneiden können mit der Hülse aus einem Stück bestehen oder sind auf besonderen auswechselbaren Bauteilen angebracht. Da die beiden Schneiden entgegengesetzt gerichtet sind, behindern sie sich gegenseitig nicht und wird deren unnötige Abnutzung vermieden. Da die Schneiden innen liegen, ist ein Verletzen durch dieselben ausgeschlossen.
Die Herstellung der Schneiden erfolgt in der Weise, dass sie zunächst in dem Konus eingepresst und sodann geschliffen werden. Schutzhülse und Schärfeinrichtung können allenfalls auch so vereinigt sein, dass zum Schärfen der Stift auf der einen Seite, bei Verwendung des Gerätes als Schutzhülse jedoch auf der anderen Seite in das Gerät gesteckt wird.
Die erfindungsgemässe Bleistifthülse eignet sich für alle Arten von Schreibstiften, Farbstiften, Bleistiften u. dgl.
