<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Gases, but also the imperfect gases and vapors and gas mixtures.
Gases that are particularly well suited for arc dissolution due to their high thermal conductivity and diffusivity are z. B. the noble gases, helium, neon, argon, etc., as well as hydrogen and other gases, which are basic chemical elements. Mixtures of these gases can also be used. When hydrogen is mixed with another gas, the hydrogen is advantageously made incombustible. Furthermore, other gases with a rich hydrogen content are also suitable for the switch according to the invention, eg. B. luminous gas, methane, etc. The examples given show that most of these extinguishing agents are very valuable.
The operation of a switch is therefore expensive if new extinguishing agent has to be procured for it, which escapes into the open after use and is lost, although with many gases and also with some vapors, e.g. B.
Mercury vapor, the extinguishing properties are essentially unaffected by the arc.
It is known to prevent the loss or the often undesirable mixing of used switching gases with the ambient air by collecting these gases in a low-pressure vessel attached to the switch. They are also known to be used again for switching purposes after removal from the low-pressure container and after compression has taken place. For this purpose, the expanded gas is usually filled in a central system, if necessary after previous cleaning, onto steel bottles, which can then be connected as high-pressure containers to the pressure lines leading to the switches.
A steel cylinder contains enough gas for a large number of switching operations, but the cylinders must be monitored and replaced in good time, otherwise there is a danger. is that the supply is exhausted just when it is urgently needed.
This disadvantage is avoided according to the invention in that the switch, in order to enable repeated use of the same extinguishing agent in the same switch, has its own high-pressure container next to the low-pressure container, which can be connected to it via a compressor.
Since, as a result, there is no noticeable loss of extinguishing agent even with frequent switching and over a long period of time, the amount of gas circulating does not need to be greater than sufficient for extinguishing. Provision is advantageously made for the extinguishing agent to be returned from the low-pressure container to the high-pressure container while switching, so that it flows in a closed circuit leading over the extinguishing point.
Exemplary embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawing.
In FIG. 1, the low-pressure container is denoted by 10 and the high-pressure container by 11.
The containers and thus the dimensions of the entire switch can be kept small if the amount of gas is essentially not greater than sufficient for extinguishing a light arc. The switch can be constructed in such a way that the amount of gas circulates in a circle. For this purpose, the interruption path is arranged in a switching tube 17 between the containers 10 and 11, and the one when switching off

and 10 connected. These two containers are attached to a base 14 by means of insulators 12 and 18. A fixed contact piece 18 designed as a hollow nozzle contact is inserted into the tube 15.
In the tube 16 there is a piston 19 to which the switch pin-shaped movable contact piece 20 is attached. The part of the tube 16 which extends into the low-pressure container 10 has lateral openings 21, 22. At the bottom, the tube 16 is closed by a cover 23. On the
A switch-on coil 24 is pushed onto the tube 16 between its fastening flange and the container 10. 25 is an opening coil, which is located in the low-pressure container at the lower end of the tube 16.
It is of particular importance that all parts of the switch are sealed gas-tight from the outside area. In order not to endanger the gas-tight closure of the switch, the compressor 26 with its drive motor 27 is installed in the low-pressure container 10 or in a room connected to it and closed off from the outside. In order to prevent the gradual penetration of air, which is not readily avoidable, even with a good, gas-tight seal, the pressure in the low-pressure part of the switch, i.e. H. in the low-pressure tank and in the switching tube is greater than the air pressure in the outside area. Leaks in the switch are indicated to the operator by a fragrance that is added to the gas.
The compressor 26 draws in from the low-pressure container 10. The compressor is connected to the high-pressure container 11 by a line 28 which is partly formed from the hollow insulators 12 and 13.
When it is switched off, the valve 29 located in the tube 15 is opened, which closes the high-pressure container against the switching tube 17.
At the same time, when the valve 29 is opened, the circuit of the opening coil 25 is closed, so that the piston 19 of the switching pin 20 is moved downward until it hits the cover 23 of the tube 19. The switching pin 20 is pulled out of the hollow switching piece 18. The gas flows through the hollow contact piece into the switching tube 17 and, as soon as the piston 19 has released the lateral openings 21 and 22 of the tube 16, out of the tube 16 into the low-pressure container. The extinguishing agent relaxes and extinguishes the arc drawn when the contact pieces were disconnected.
If the conditions are chosen correctly, the arcs of small currents up to the order of magnitude of the nominal current are extinguished before the piston 19 releases the lateral openings of the tube 16 for the solvent to flow from the maintenance tube into the low-pressure container. For the extinguishing of small arcs, the flow of the extinguishing agent in the switching tube is sufficient, which takes place when the space in the switching tube is increased by the moving piston, and no overvoltages are generated because the strength of the flow is in the correct ratio to the strength of the one to be extinguished Arc stands.
In order to effectively extinguish large arcs, appropriate dimensioning of the high-pressure container and the low-pressure container ensures that the pressure ratio in both containers is such that the flow rate of the gas is above the critical speed until the arc is extinguished.
B? The decrease in the pressure difference between the high-pressure container 11 and the low-pressure container 70 is triggered by a pressure control switch (not shown in particular) which switches on the drive motor 27 of the compressor. The compressor pumps the gas back through the pipe 28 into the high-pressure container 11, which is closed again by the valve 29 from the switching tube and the low-pressure container. When switching on, the switch-on coil 24 is excited and moves the actuating piston 19 upwards, the switching pin 20 being pushed back into the hollow switching piece 18.
In FIG. 2, the high-pressure container 11 is built into the low-pressure container 10, so that the high-pressure container is particularly protected. The tube 15 located on the high-pressure container is passed through the wall of the low-pressure container 10. The tube 15 carries a hollow insulator 30 on which an elbow 31 is attached. 32 is a hollow insulator attached to the low-pressure vessel 70, on which an elbow 33 is attached. The switching tube 17, which consists of insulating material and surrounds the interruption path of the switch, is arranged between the knee pieces. The hollow, fixed contact piece 18 is located in the knee piece 33.
The knee piece 31 forms a cylinder 34 for the actuating piston 19 of the switching pin 20.24 is the closing coil.
When switching off, the valve 29 arranged in the pipe 15 is opened. The tensioned extinguishing agent then enters the switching tube 17 from the pressure vessel 11 and pushes the actuating piston 19 of the switching pin 20 to the left as far as the end of the cylinder 34. The switching pin 20 is pulled out of the hollow, fixed contact piece 75 and the gas then flows with simultaneous relaxation through the hollow contact piece 18, the arc extinguishes and passes through the wide elbow 33 and the wide insulator 32 into the low-pressure container 10.
A dome 35 is arranged on the low-pressure tank, in which the compressor 26 and its drive

whose end, as in FIG. 1, is closed by a check valve 36. Switching on takes place, as in FIG. 1, in that the switch-on coil 24 is excited and the piston 19 moves to the right as far as a stop 37. The switching pin 20 is thereby pushed into the hollow contact 18.
In order to replace the part of the enclosed amount of gas that is lost due to leaks, a refill device (not shown) is connected to the low-pressure container.

operated, the refill device can be a Kipp's apparatus or an electrolytic apparatus which, like the first-mentioned apparatus, evolves hydrogen when the pressure drops. The generation and supply of hydrogen from the refilling device to the low-pressure container stops when the initial pressure in the low-pressure container is reached again.
For refilling, however, the hydrogen can also be taken from a bottle filled with hydrogen, which is connected to the low-pressure container via a minimum pressure valve that regulates constant pressure.
According to FIG. 3, the switch consists of a high-pressure container 110 and a low-pressure container 111, which are arranged next to one another on a base 112. The two containers 110 and 111 are connected to one another via a line 113 with a compressor 114. Each container carries a hollow insulator 115, 116 per pole. The hollow insulators 115 and 116 of each pole are connected to one another by an insulating switching tube 117 surrounding the interruption path. Between the hollow insulators 115 and 116 and the switching tube 117, metal elbows 118 and 119 are arranged, which carry connecting pieces 120 and 121.
The switching tube 117 is arranged exchangeably between the elbows 118 and 119.

Valve 122, which can be operated manually or electromagnetically, and the low-pressure container 111 can be closed by a check valve 123 against each retaining tube 117.
In the case of the switch, in order to avoid gas losses, it is particularly important that all parts are absolutely tightly connected to one another. In order to enable an absolutely tight connection between the exchangeable switching tube 117 and the elbows 118 and 119, either the high-pressure container and the low-pressure container are flexibly supported against each other so that when the parts 117, 118 and 119 are screwed together, their fastening flanges touch over the entire surface and the Sealing rings 124 and 125 located between the mounting flanges are evenly compressed. Instead of supporting the containers 110 and 111 in a flexible manner with respect to one another, however, as shown in FIG. 3, the switching tube can also be connected via a flexible connection piece 126 designed as a corrugated tube.
The fastening points between the hollow insulators 115 and 116 and the containers 110 and 111 as well as the elbows 118 and 119 are made tight by using hollow insulators made of a ceramic material and by means of metal glazes provided at their fastening points with the containers and the elbows by a metallic fusion connection , d. i. Soldering or Sehweissung, are firmly connected.
The switching tube 117 and the hollow insulators 115 and 116 can be surrounded by tubes made of hard pressed material, such as hard paper or hard tissue, for the purpose of splinter protection. The switching tube 117 is made of a transparent insulating material such. B.
Glass, quartz or cellophane, made in order to be able to observe the interruption path of the switch. If the switching tube is encased in a protective tube made of hard paper or fabric, a window is then cut into the protective tube.
The metal elbow 118, which is fastened for each pole on the hollow insulator 115 belonging to the high-pressure container 110, is designed as a container 127 for the actuating piston 128 of the switching pin-shaped movable contact element 129. The metal elbow 119, which is attached to the hollow insulator 116 belonging to the low-pressure vessel 111 for each pole, contains a fixed switching element 130 designed as a hollow contact. The actuating piston 128 is a hollow piston and is in the switched-on position shown by a closing spring 131 located in it against an in Container 127 located stop 132 is pressed.
The hollow insulators 115 of the high pressure container are each seated on an intermediate container 133 which is connected to the high pressure container 110 via a pipe 134 that can be closed by the valve 122. When the valve 122 is opened, the extinguishing agent enters the switching tube 117 of each pole through the hollow insulators 115. As a result of the highly tensioned extinguishing agent, the actuating piston 128 of each switching pin 129 is moved to the left against its closing spring 131, and the switching pin 129 is pulled out of the hollow contact 130 and removed therefrom.
The arc drawn is extinguished by the extinguishing agent flowing out of the switching tube through the hollow contact 130 and relaxing in the process, which reaches the low-pressure container 111 through the knee 119 and the hollow insulator 116. The check valve 123 opens so that the high-tension extinguishing agent can relax as it flows out of the expedient nozzle-shaped hollow contact 130, the hollow insulator 116 and the elbow 119 have a significantly larger clear width than the hollow insulator 115. In the elbow 119 there are devices for cooling the through The arc-heated extinguishing agent is provided to avoid damage to the hollow insulator 116 and the non-return valve 123

The facilities consist e.g. B. from several parallel walls 135 which subdivide the cavity of the knee 119 in its longitudinal direction.
A locking lever 136 which is rotatably mounted in the knee piece 118 and to which an insulating rod 137 is articulated is used to hold the actuating piston 128 of each pole in the switched-off position. The insulating rods 1. 37 of the locking levers 136 extend through the hollow insulators located between the elbows 118 and the container 133 and are connected to one another in the intermediate container 133 by a cross member 138. The actuating pistons 128 are then moved by the closing springs 737 up to the stops 132 and in the process push the switch pins 129 into the hollow contacts 130.
Signaling contacts 144 for the switch-on position and signaling contacts 145 for the switch-off position of the switch are arranged in the intermediate container 133. The signaling contacts are opened and closed by contact bridges 746 located on the insulating rods 737. The connecting lines of the signaling contacts, which are not specifically shown, are led out of the intermediate container 733 in a well-sealed manner.
The compressor 114, which pumps the expanded extinguishing agent back from the low-pressure container 111 via the line 113 into the high-pressure container 110, is arranged with its drive motor 147 in a dome 148 attached to the low-pressure container 111. The engine 147 is using

the pressure difference between high and low pressure vessels is reduced. 149 is the removable cover of the dome, which at the same time forms one of the end shields of the drive motor 147. The dome 148 is connected to the low-pressure container 111 via a valve 150 which is kept closed by a spring 151. The valve 150 is only opened against the spring 151 when the drive motor 147 starts up.
The valve 150 can be opened, for example, by a device operated by centrifugal force. If the drive motor or the compressor has to be removed in order to carry out repairs, this can easily be done since the dome 148 is closed off from the low-pressure container 111 by the valve 150. The pressure line 773 leading from the compressor 114 into the high-pressure container 110 is closed at its end with a non-return valve 11 152. is a tube which is led into the low-pressure container 777 and closed by a check valve 154 and is connected to a refilling device (not shown).
In order to prevent an arc from gaining a foothold on the high-pressure or low-pressure container when the holder is destroyed and burning into these holes through which the amount of gas contained in the containers escapes, a cover 155 is arranged over both of them. The cover can be made of metal and then forms a grounded housing enclosing the container.
Since the switch according to the invention is a closed switch, it is equally well suited for outdoor installation and for operations endangered by firedamp. The switch according to the invention can also advantageously replace an oil switch in a switchgear assembly if the switch is set up according to FIG. 3 and the connection pieces 120 and 121 are arranged on the knee pieces 118 and 119 going upwards. The switch can also be used as a wall switch without any changes. The connection pieces 120 and 121 are then arranged on the elbows 118 and 119 that the switching pin 129 lies in the course of the line.
The hollow insulators are advantageously provided with a metallic inner lining and arranged as bushings in the container wall. In a particularly useful manner, the metallic inner lining of the hollow insulators consists of metal tubes which protrude from the insulators and are connected to the switching tube. The metallic inner lining of the hollow insulators used as feedthroughs has the advantage that a deposit of moisture contained in the extinguishing agent and metal dust and metal vapor from the contact erosion inside does not reduce the insulating capacity of the insulators. The hollow insulators of the low-pressure vessel are also protected from the direct influence of the gas heated by the arc, so that they are not damaged.
In Fig. 4 an embodiment is shown in which only the most endangered hollow insulators of the low-pressure container are provided with a metal lining. To the extent that individual parts of the switch shown in FIG. 4 correspond to those shown in FIG. 3, they are provided with the same reference numerals.

Hollow insulator 164 is used as a bushing for a metal pipe 170. The switching tube 117 is connected on one side to the metal tube 170 and on the other side to a metallic elbow 118 inserted in the hollow insulator 115. The hollow mating contact piece 130 of the switching pin 129 is fastened in the metal tube 170. On the container 127 there is a membrane capsule 167, to the bottom of which a pin 168 is attached which extends through the container wall. In the switched-on position shown, the pin 168 is pressed against the piston 128 by a spring 169.

Signaling contacts for the switch off position.
The heat of the gas heated by the arc is dissipated by that in the hollow insulators 164 of the
Low-pressure container 111 arranged metal tube 170 added, the surface of which to this
Purpose is enlarged by several inner longitudinal walls 166 that subdivide the cross section of the tubes 170. The metal tubes 170 are provided with external cooling fins 171 for the purpose of dissipating heat to the outside. In the end of the metal tube 170 protruding into the low-pressure container 111 and the surrounding insulator 116 there are lateral openings 160 which are closed by a piston 162 located in the tube 170 and pressed against the longitudinal walls 166 by a spring 161.
The extinguishing agent flowing into the pipe 170 when it is switched off still has a sufficiently high pressure to move the piston 162 downward against the spring 161. Thereby the
Piston 162 clears the openings 160, so that the extinguishing agent flows from the tube 170 into the low-pressure container 111, where it is further relaxed. After the solvent has flown out of the tube 170, the piston 162 is moved upwards again by the spring 161 until it hits the longitudinal walls 166. In this position the piston closes the openings 160 again.
In an advantageous further embodiment of a switch for multiple interruptions, the flow of the amount of gas flowing out of a high-pressure container when it is switched off branches at the adjacent interruption points into several partial flows corresponding to the number of interruption points, which after flowing through the interruption sections into one with the high-pressure container through a line with a compressor connected low-pressure tank. In order to arrange the interruption points lying together where the distribution of the gas flow emerging from the high-pressure container takes place, a common fixed contact is provided for all interruption points.
The arc quenching that takes place through the flow and expansion of the extinguishing agent is designed particularly favorably in that the movable contact pieces of the interruption points are designed as hollow contacts through which the gas flows off to the low-pressure container. The movement of the movable contact pieces when switching off takes place through the pressure of the high tension gas on actuating pistons which are connected to the movable contact pieces. When the switch is switched on, the actuating pistons are held in place by a removable lock. The high-pressure tank is closed off from the low-pressure tank. Their mutual arrangement can be arbitrary.
A particularly expedient construction of the switch results when the low-pressure container is divided into two containers, which are located on both sides of the high-pressure container and are connected to one another by a pipeline. In order to create the required connection between the low-pressure and high-pressure tanks, a dome for the compressor with its drive motor located between the low-pressure tanks and located on the former is switched on.
In FIGS. 5 and 6, a multipole switch with two-way interruption is shown as an exemplary embodiment. 270 is a high-pressure container, 277 and 272 two low-pressure containers arranged on both sides thereof and with it on a common base 213. The former carries a hollow insulator 214 per pole, which is formed at the top to form a switching tube 215. Metal pipes 216 and 217, which are surrounded by bushing insulators 218 and 219, are led into the low-pressure vessels 277 and 272 at both ends of the stay pipe 215. A cylindrical Sehaltstüek 220 with conical ends is fastened in the switching tube 275.
When the switch is switched on, movable hollow contact pieces 221 and 222 are pushed onto the conical ends of the fixed shaft piece 220. These have pistons 223 and 224, which serve to guide them in the horizontal part of the tubes 216 and 217. 225 and 226 are the closing springs for the movable retaining pieces 221 and 222.
Membrane capsules 227 and 228 are arranged on the metal tubes 216 and 217, in which there are pins 229 which are fastened to the bottom of the capsules and passed through the wall of the metal tubes 216 and 217. The pins 229 are pressed so far into the tubes 216 and 217 by means of springs 230 that they grip behind the pistons 223 and 224 of the movable hollow switching pieces 221 and 222. The pins 229 prevent the hollow contact pieces from being damaged by the pressure exerted on the front annular surface of the pistons 223 and 224 by the highly tensioned extinguishing agent in the with the

High-pressure container 210 is present through the hollow insulator 214 connected Sehaltrohr 215, can be moved into the open position.
On the outside, insulating rods 231 and 232 are attached to the bottom of the membrane capsules 227 and 228, which support the cores 233 and 234 of magnet coils 235 and 236. The solenoid coils 235 and 236 are arranged on the low-pressure containers 211 and 212.
A dome 243 for receiving the compressor is arranged on the high-pressure container 210 and is closed off from the high-pressure container and is connected to the low-pressure containers by pipes 244 and 245. Check valves 250 and 251 are located at the ends of the pipes 244 and 245 leading into the low-pressure tanks 211 and 212. The check valves 250 and 251 are designed so that they open when the compressor 246 sucks. The check valve 249 of the pipe 248, on the other hand, opens under the pressure of the gas pressed into the high-pressure container 210 by the compressor.
When switching off, the hollow contacts, as described in FIG. 4, are released. They are then moved to the left and right into the open position by the pressure of the highly tensioned extinguishing agent, which acts on the front annular surface of the pistons 223 and 224. The retaining springs 225 and 226 are tensioned in the process. In the switched-off position, the locking pins 229 are pressed by the springs 230 in front of the front annular surface of the pistons 223 and 224 and hold the pistons against the tensioned retaining springs 225 and 226.
When the hollow contacts 221 and 222 are separated from the common fixed retaining piece 220, arcs are drawn which are extinguished by the solvent flowing through the hollow contacts into the metal pipes 216 and 217 and expanding in the process.
The heated extinguishing agent is discharged, returned to the high-pressure container and switched on as described for FIG. 4.
