Föttinger gears, in particular for rail vehicles.
In Föttinger gearboxes, each with a special circuit for start-up and operation, it has been customary to fill one circuit and let the other run empty.
The transition from one cycle to the other required emptying one and filling the other. This not only leads to a loss of time, but can also result in an undesirable discontinuity in the torque and the load on the motor. It also requires a relatively powerful return pump.
To remedy this disadvantage, the device can be designed so that the operating circuit is filled or emptied, while the start-up circuit remains filled at all operating stages.
Since a circuit is always filled and therefore operational, the duration of the transfer becomes less important, so that the performance of the return pump can be reduced accordingly.
Furthermore, the torque is never interrupted.
The invention relates to a transmission of the last-mentioned type and consists in the fact that the guide ring of the starting converter in the first starting stage works backwards on the output shaft, for example on a drive axle in a vehicle drive, is separated from the shaft in the second gear stage and locked in the third speed step after filling the operating circuit runs freely without transfer of work.
The connection to the output shaft in the first gear is expediently made by a planetary gear, one part of which is locked. In the second gear, the planetary gear is released, but the guide ring is braked. In the third gear, both are released.
The planetary gear can be conveniently arranged on the drive side of the fluid gear.
It is also possible to arrange the planet gears at the rear end of the fluid transmission; the output from the turbine wheels can then be between the circuits or on the drive side.
The drawing shows an embodiment of the invention with a two-axle drive for a rail vehicle.
The fluid transmission consists of a converter 10 and a clutch 11. The shafts 12 and 13 lead to drive wheels 14 and 15 of the vehicle. The pump wheels 16 and 17 are driven by the shaft 18 of the motor 19. The guide ring 20 of the starting converter 10 is connected via a sleeve 21 to a disk 22 which can be braked by the brake 23. 24 is a planetary gear, which consists of an external gear 25 with a brake 26, an internal gear 27 and the planetary gears 28. The internal gear 27 is loosely rotatably mounted on the sleeve 21, while the planetary gears 28 are firmly connected to the disk 22 and thus to the sleeve 21 and the guide ring 20. At its right end, the inner gear 27 has a toothed ring 29 which engages in the spur gear 30 of the output shaft 13. 31 is the turbine wheel of converter 10 and 32 is the turbine wheel of clutch 11.
Both turbine wheels 31 and 32 are firmly connected to the output shaft 12.
The mode of operation is as follows.
The converter 10 is permanently filled, while the clutch 11 is only filled in the third gear (operational drive), but otherwise emptied. In the first stage, the guide ring 20 drives the inner gear 27 via the sleeve 21, the disc 22 and the planetary gears 28 with the brake 26 tightened, and thus the shaft 13 of the drive wheel 15 via the gears 29 and 30, in the second drive stage

the brake 26 is released and the guide ring 20 is fixed by the brake 23. In the third gear, the clutch 11 is also filled; the brake 23 is released so that the guide ring 20 can rotate freely.
