Process for influencing the type of solidification of cast iron melts of all kinds.

As far as we know so far, nuclei of undissolved carbon are the main determining factors for the type of solidification and the associated graphite formation in cast iron.

Experiments have now found that the type of solidification of all types of cast iron clay is significantly influenced by finely distributed submicroscopic slag particles. These slag particles are called slag pulp. This completely new knowledge makes it possible to manufacture cast iron types which either show a certain desired type of solidification due to a certain content of such slag particles or, by being completely free of such slag particles, show the type of solidification characteristic of such cast iron types on the metastable side.

Cast iron of all kinds, which is afflicted with finely distributed submicroscopic slag particles due to the way it is manufactured, can be largely freed from them by suitable treatment.

Such a treatment process is, for example, a pre-deoxidation in which oxide compounds are destroyed earlier before they form slag slag with opaque alloy materials.

Another possibility is to destroy the slag slag that has formed, whereby the deoxidizing agents must be considerably stronger. Another possibility is the management of suitable slag in the melting device. For example, the management of a slag that is low in or free of silicic acid prevents the formation of turbidity from the outset, while slags with sufficient solubility in chemical and physical terms can absorb slag that is present from the cast iron melt.

The subject of the invention is therefore a treatment for melting cast iron of all kinds, including chilled iron and synthetic cast iron as well as malleable cast iron, in which either the above-mentioned processes achieve a complete liberation of submicroscopic slag particles or the total or partial omission of such slag particles determines the content of such slag particles becomes.
