Pin roller drive for piercing mills.
The invention relates to a pinion roller drive for cross-rolling mills, the purpose of which is to offer the rolling stock an opening as wide as possible through its shape to pass through the hollow pin-type roller stand. In cross-rolling mills in which long tubes or drums are to be produced, the answer to the question of how the rolling stock is to be delivered to or removed from the rolling mill without it being hindered by the pinion stand often presents difficulties.
The invention solves this problem in that it allows the comb rollers rotating in place to mesh with an internally toothed revolving drive wheel that encompasses them all on the outside. In this way, the pinion stand can be provided with a very wide central opening for the rolling stock to pass through. Cross rolling devices are known in which the pinion rollers roll on a stationary toothed ring with internal teeth in the manner of planet gears, but these devices have the disadvantage. that the storage of the comb rollers and the supply of the lubricant cause difficulties.
A pin roller drive according to the invention has particular advantages in all cross rolling mills which work with more than two work rolls. These include those saw mills on which large seamless drums or tubes (expanding mills) are produced, as well as those cross-mills on which the smallest seamless tubes that can be rolled directly are produced.
The drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention in FIG. 1 in a plan view of the drive of a cross rolling mill with four work rolls, in which the inner drive wheel is shown in section. The drive motor s acts via a pinion b and the internally toothed drive wheel c on comb rollers d, which are encompassed on the outside by the drive wheel c: FIG. 2 is the front view of the comb roller drive. p, / 'and gr, are the lines of action of the various gears. It is readily apparent that, as indicated at i, a very wide central opening has been created for the rolling stock to pass through.
