Abstract

In one embodiment, a method of sealing a well is described. The method comprises producing a delayed setting cement composition comprising pumice stone, hydrated lime, a cement setting retarder and water; activating the delayed setting cement composition to produce an activated retarding setting cement composition; introducing the activated delayed setting cement composition into the well and allowing the activated delayed setting cement composition to form a plug in the well that has a permeability of less than 0.1 milidarcy.
