Abstract
The location of the liquid within this transport layer increases the potential of this layer to move the liquid through the capillary action due to the high level of saturation and the increase in the amount of liquid available. The absorption capacity of the absorbent system is maintained or improved over current systems by maintaining a second layer of the absorbent system at low saturation levels through as many product discharges as possible, while providing optimum absorption performance at through proper control of the properties of the compound. The low saturation of this layer provides an empty volume for the incoming discharge as well as a low permeability, therefore it increases the absorption rate of the absorbent system as a whole, but the structure of the low saturation layer is also balanced to provide a high level adequate capillary tension in order to provide sufficient control of the liquid that makes it possible to prevent the occurrence of leaks. This low saturation layer is used in addition to a flow material and provides the absorption functionality added to that provided by the flow material. In particular aspects of the invention, therefore, the contact-body layer is not used as a high saturation transport layer, but as an absorption layer. Also, this arrangement allows the absorption layer to be in direct contact with the incoming liquid, and thus results in more immediate access and an improved absorption function. In additional aspects, at least one major stripping region may have a non-uniform base weight distribution selectively distributed by zones. Particular configurations of at least one main layer region can be constructed with a target area of the main layer region having a base weight that is not less than a base weight of
