Abstract

An eyewear (1) comprising a lens means (2) comprising at least one lens (5), which lens means (2) in a worn state of the eyewear (1), supported on the head of a user, is arranged to cover both eyes of the user, wherein the said one or several lenses (5) are shaped as a respective developable surface, wherein the curvature of the lens means (2) is arranged with at least two different and non-parallel curvature axes (6), so that the curvature of the lens means (2) in front of the eyes of the user in said worn state is associated with different curvature axes (6).

Description

EYEWEAR HAVING LENS MEANS WITH A DEVELOPABLE SURFACE
The present invention concerns an eyewear comprising a lens means comprising at least one lens. The lens means in a worn state of the eyewear is supported on the head of a user and is arranged to cover both eyes of the user. The said one or several lenses are shaped as a respective developable surface.
Background
Eyewear of the above type are previously known but generally almost all eyewear have lenses with double-curved surfaces. This is what we are familiar with.
Summary
The aim of the present invention is to provide eyewear having lens means with a developable surface but having an appearance similar to eyewear having lens means with double curved surfaces.
According to an aspect of the present invention an eyewear is provided comprising a lens means comprising at least one lens, which lens means in a worn state of the eyewear, supported on the head of a user, is arranged to cover both eyes of the user. The said one or several lenses are shaped as a respective developable surface. The curvature of the lens means is arranged with at least two different and non-parallel curvature axes, so that the curvature of the lens means in front of the eyes of the user in said worn state is associated with different curvature axes.
Thus it is possible to have lens means with a developable surface, which is a need if, for example, a film should be applied to the surface of the lens means. At the same time a reflective appearance is provided similar to lens means having a double-curved surface. It is not possible to provide a double-curved surface of a film or a layer of a material of the type not being drapeable. This may be the case if you have eyewear comprising liquid crystal technology, for example. According to an embodiment of the present invention, for two of said at least two different curvature axes, and for a vertical plane which is parallel to a line running between the eyes of the user in said worn state, respective projections of said axes on said plane diverge or converge as a function of the vertical direction. Thus two of the at least two different curvature axes seen straight towards the eyewear in the worn state will diverge or converge in the vertical direction.
Preferably said projections converge in an upwards direction. Thus an outer upper portion of the lens will have a reflective surface facing at least partly the sky which will give a lively and familiar reflective appearance of the eyewear.
According to an embodiment of the present invention there are only two axes of curvature. Preferably one in front of respective eye.
According to an embodiment of the present invention two of said at least two different curvature axes, in said worn state, span a plane in space which is parallel to a line running between the eyes of the user, and said plane is inclined in relation to a vertical plane. Preferably, the said inclination has a positive direction as seen in a forward direction of the user in said worn state. Thus the lens means is inclined towards the cheeks in the worn state.
According to an embodiment of the present invention the curvature in front of each eye is conical. Alternatively, the curvature in front of each eye is cylindrical.
According to an embodiment of the present invention the lens means comprises an anti- reflection layer arranged at a surface of the lens means facing away from the user in said worn state. According to an embodiment of the present invention the lens means comprises an adjustable tinting function in regard to surrounding light.

Fig. la shows an eyewear having a lens means comprising one lens and three curvature axes,
Fig. lb shows an eyewear having a lens means comprising two lenses and two curvature axes,
Fig. 2 shows a lens means inclined in relation to a vertical plane,
Fig. 3a shows a pair of lenses having a conical curvature, respectively,
Fig. 3b shows a pair of lenses having cylindrical curvature, respectively,
Fig. 4 shows a pair of lenses from above having different and non-parallel curvature axes, and
Fig. 5 shows a lens to be worn in front of an eye of a wearer having a curvature axes being inclined towards a root of a nose of the wearer and how the outer ends of the lens are bent inwards towards the wearer in the worn state.
Detailed description of embodiments of the present invention
Different embodiments of the present invention is conceivable and a few of these will be described in detail. The present invention concerns an eyewear 1 comprising a lens means 2, see Figs, la and lb. The eyewear 1 may have a frame 3 and temples 4 or a band (not shown). The lens means 2 is in a worn state supported on a head of a user and arranged to cover or be situated in front of both eyes of the user. The lens means 2 comprises at least one lens 5. Said one or several lenses 5 are shaped as a respective developable surface. A curvature of the lens means 2 is arranged with at least two different and non-parallel curvature axes 6 so that the curvature of the lens means in front of the eyes of the user in said worn state is associated with different curvature axes 6. The lens means 2 may have further curvatures axes 7, for example as seen in Fig. la, where the lens means 2 comprises one lens 5 and has a central curvature axis 7, too. In the shown case the curvature axis 7 is vertical. In Fig. lb a leans means 2 having only two axes of curvature 6, one in front of respective eye.
In a front view of a user wearing the eyewear of the present invention a vertical plane 8 is parallel to a line running between the eyes of the user in the worn state, see Fig. 2, and a projection on this plane of respective axes 6 will show diverging or converging axes 6 as a function of the vertical direction 9. In the preferred embodiments shown in Fig. la and lb the projections of the curvature axes 6 converge in an upwards direction. The angle a be- tween the projection of the curvature axis 6 and the vertical axis 9 may be at least 30 degrees up to 75 degrees. Preferably the angle a is between 45 to 60 degrees.
A plane 10 being parallel with said line between the eyes of a user in the worn state may be inclined in relation to said vertical plane 8. In the shown embodiment in Fig. 2 the incli- nation has a positive direction as seen in a forward direction of the user in said worn state. In other words the lens means 2 incline towards a cheek of the user. The inclination β in relation to the vertical plane 8 may be up to 15 degrees, preferably between 8-13 degrees.
In Fig. 3a two lenses 5 (not cut to suit a frame yet) are shown which have a conical surface. In this case a top of the cone is arranged above an upper edge 11 of the lens 5. In Fig. 3b a cylindrical surface is shown in each lens 5 and the lenses 5 having converging curvature axes 6 in upwards vertical direction. Fig. 4 shows a pair of lenses 5 seen from above. The lenses 5 are of the same type as in Fig. 3b but cut to suit a frame 3. In Fig. 5 a lens 5 of the same type as in Fig. 4 is shown. Here it is shown that an outer upper portion 12 and a lower inner portion 13 are bent around the curvature axis 6 and preferably bent towards a face of a user when in the worn state. Thus the outer upper portion 12 of the lens will have a reflective surface facing at least partly the sky which will give a lively and familiar reflective appearance of the eyewear.
The lens means 2 may comprise an anti-reflection layer arranged at the surface of the lens means 2 facing away from the user in said worn state. This is especially of interest when the eyewear 1 of the present invention comprises lens means 2 having LC-technology or other tinting technology making it possible to change between a tinted and a clear state for the lens means 2.

Claims

1. An eyewear(l) comprising a lens means (2) comprising at least one lens (5), which lens means (2) in a worn state of the eyewear (1), supported on the head of a user, is arranged to cover both eyes of the user, wherein the said one or several lenses (5) are shaped as a respective developable surface, wherein the curvature of the lens means (2) is arranged with at least two different and non-parallel curvature axes (6), so that the curvature of the lens means (2) in front of the eyes of the user in said worn state is associated with different curvature axes (2).
2. An eyewear according to claim 1, wherein there are only two axes (6) of curvature.
3. An eyewear according to claim 1 or 2, wherein, for two of said at least two different curvature axes (6), and for a vertical plane (8) which is parallel to a line running between the eyes of the user in said worn state, respective projections of said axes on said plane (8) diverge or converge as a function of the vertical direction.
4. An eyewear according to claim 3, wherein said projections converge in an upwards direction.
5. An eyewear according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein two of said at least two different curvature axes (6), in said worn state, span a plane (10) in space which is parallel to a line running between the eyes of the user, and said plane is inclined in relation to a vertical plane (8).
6. An eyewear according to claim 5, wherein the said inclination has a positive direction as seen in a forward direction of the user in said worn state.
7. An eyewear according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the curvature in front of each eye is conical.
8. An eyewear according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the curvature in front of each eye is cylindrical.
9. An eyewear according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the lens means (2) comprises an anti-reflection layer arranged at a surface of the lens means (2) facing away from the user in said worn state.
10. An eyewear according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the lens means (2) comprises an adjustable tinting function in regard to surrounding light.
