Description

Title of Invention
Handheld Automatic Multifunctional Buffing Device
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a handheld automatic buffing device useful for cleaning, polishing, deodorizing leather or leather like materials used in footwear (footwear includes shoes, sandals, slippers and other footwear made from leather, rubber and plastic materials) belts, bags and similar articles. More particularly the invention relates to a handheld automatic portable device which runs electronically, and maintains the hygiene of the footwear particularly made up of leather or leather like materials with rotating hair bristles, without the user having to manually perform the above mentioned activity. The device helps in rapid restoration of the footwear color, shine and removes dirt, deodorizing and maintaining the complete hygiene with minimal effortby the user. The device also helps in rapid restoration of the footwear colour, shine and removal of dirt, deodorising and sanitising similar application surfaces.
Background of the Invention
Cleaning and maintaining the hygiene of a footwear and leather made articles using traditional and conventional methods involve brushing the shiner over the article, the brushing action and the amount of force applied determines the amount of dirt removal and shine on the article, the same applies even after applying a polishing compound like wax or cream. Therefore, the efficiency of the shine mainly relies on the hair brush and the brushing action. For this purpose a handheld footwear shining brush is used, in which the efficacy of brushing relies on the manual action performed to do so. There are several handheld footwear shine brushes available in the market and they suffer from following problems.
1. The handheld brush requires muscle power for the brushing action, which is an exhausting activity for the person
2. There is non-uniformity in the shine of the footwear because of the irregular force applied to the static brush during buffing. 3. Due to manual action, the time required to clean and shine the footwear is more
4. Additional source of polishing compound has to be used that leaves stains on hands and * fingernails after the buffing process.
5. There is no deodorizing method available with the brushes for the inside of the footwear and therefore remains unhygienic.
6. The bottom of the footwear remains unclean.
There are several automatic footwear shine brushing machines are available that solves some of the problems of the traditional handheld brushes. These machines have a rectangular box design and are kept on the floor, where one has to insert their feet in the brushing area and move the feet back and forth, for the brushes to work on the footwear for the buffing to be complete. However they too have several issues.
1. The machines are big in size and are heavier, not making them portable enough, hence one needs to go to the location to polish their footwear. Which makes them inaccessible at times when it's required to brush the footwear. For example, while travelling, in the office, at home.
2. Motors used are heavier ones, which consumes more power. Thereby increasing the electricity bills.
3. It requires big storage or mounting place, which blocks the floor space, which could be used for other purposes.
4. The user has to insert the feet in the shining box. The static rectangular box design blocks the complete movement of the legs.
5. The degree of rotation of the feet depends upon the hinge joint between knee and the femur and the saddle joint between the lower knee and the ankle bones of the user. Thus making it difficult for the person to polish the back and the sides of the footwear efficiently in this box type models.
6. Also, one needs to maintain standing posture and entire body balance on their one feet in order to polish their footwear.
7. There is no cleansing and deodorizing of the footwear from inside. 8. Cream/wax (shoe polishing compound) application on the footwear is very inconvenient.
Following prior art patent references which are somewhat relevant to the present invention are mentioned: i) 2006/CHE/2013 (Portable motorised handheld battery operated shoe brush) ii) 2477/CHE/2015 ( Shoe shiner with cream dispenser )

The invention is described in accordance with the preferred embodiments as illustrated in the accompanying drawings and explanation of working. .
Explanation of Working
We describe below the three basic functions of the device.
1. Mechanism of cleaning
2. Mechanism of dispensing the polishing compound directly on brush.
3. Mechanism of deodoriser-aerosol spraying. 1. Mechanism of cleaning
When the device is switched on, the D cut shaft attached to D cut socket of brush base, moves the brush. When the rotating brush is applied on any surface which is leather or leather like, it starts cleaning the surface. However, as some surfaces such as a shoe, may have a curved contour, it needs to clean the folds, joints and curves present on such surfaces. This is where the dual contoured brush helps. The brush surface has two contours, the first contour is proximal to the hanging holder, which is raised in length from the distal end of the second contour that is near to the motor attachment point. While application of the brush to surface which has features such as ridges, cavities and bends, the first raised contour of the brush establishes a very close contact with these features and helps in deep cleaning. While the second contour of the brush works best for surfaces having flat feature during the contact. The brush has two ends, distal and the proximal end. The distal end of the shaft is called the dead center which is conical in shape which is attached to dead center holder and the proximal end has ad cut socket for the attachment of the motor D-cut shaft. The brush is removable from the motor assembly, by opening the hanging holder. Brushes of varying hardness can be used by interchanging them in this place, to get appropriate cleaning of the application surface.
2. Mechanism of dispensing the polishing compound directly on brush
Polishing compound is filled in the bellows which is attached to tube base. The tube base is attached to cartridge base and the cartridge head is attached to bellows. Bellows is an extensible bag with an alternative raised and deep ridges on its whole surface. It is filled with shining compound which is connected with cartridge head. Cartridge base is attached to the pusher button by spring steel. While cartridge base is attached to the main body by cartridge track groove. Cartridge head is fixed to the main body by cartridge head locator. When the pusher button is pushed on railing of tooth rack, it moves one teeth forward and stops because of locking action between tooth rack and spring steel. The cartridge locator pushes the tube base which ultimately pushes the bellows. This activity squeezes the polishing compound out of the cartridge through the nozzle tube. The placement of the nozzle is on the second contour portion of the brush, on the region before the contact of the brush and shoes. The nozzle is tapering, in a way that the polishing compound dispenses out through the nozzle and directly touches the brush. This avoids smudging and throwing the polishing compound on the walls as well at the outside of the device while dispensing. This also increases the efficiency of the quantity to be applied, additionally, it also cleans the nozzle from any remnant cream/wax on the nozzle opening.
3. Mechanism of deodorizer-aerosol spraying.
When the aerosol spray button on the back end of the device is pressed, it presses the aerosol dispensing tube and the aerosol is released in aerosol nozzle. The aerosol nozzle is L shaped which is connected to aerosol extension tube, which sprays the aerosol on the application surface.
Along with these primary actions there are some other small set of functions too.
Brush cap: It has a longitudinal septum that has the dust collecting chamber either side of it. This features helps in removing the dirt and the shining compound which gets stuck and dried on the surface of the brush bristles over the time of use. Hanging holder: The hanging rectangular block two ends, one end has a hinge lock which attaches to the main body and the other end a groove called dead end holder.
Refill cover: it is an elongated dome shaped body which have two compartments namely Deodoriser- Aerosol compartment and cartridge compartment. Cartridge compartment has a toothed railing on its upper side while the deodoriser- aerosol compartment has the aerosol nozzle attached at the end.
Battery: The device is powered by battery that is placed in the battery section which is covered by the battery cap. There are battery holding socket to hold the battery at its position.
Charge Indicators and charging point.
The main body has light indicators which glow while the device battery is being charged through the charging point.
The handheld automatic multifunctional buffing device of the invention is configured such that the brush bristles 19A& 19B tufted in the brush base 17 which has a dead centre 18 at one end and a D-cut socket 20 at the other end is rotatable in both clockwise and anti-clockwise over a D-cut shaft 22 which protrudes from the centre of the motor 21 and inserts into the D-cut socket 20 of the brush assembly. The motor 20 is attached at one end to the brush assembly from its D-cut shaft 22 and to the bottom surface of the main body 1 with the help of screws 23.
The main body 1 is formed as shown in fig. 4 and 8 and among the four side surfaces, the front half portion of the top end surface of the body has grooves for cartridge dispensing track 2 on which attaches the cartridge assembly as shown in fig.6 having a cartridge head 32 placed on the cartridge head locator 33which is attached to the main body. The cartridge tube assembly is made up of bellows 36 which holds the polishing compound in its cavity, is attached to cartridge head 32 at one end to the tube base 31 at the other end. The tube base 31 is attached to the cartridge base 26 at the bottom end which is attached to the main body 1. At the top of the tube base 31, a spring steel 28 is located which serves as an attachment point for the pusher button 27. When the pusher button 27 is pressed in the forward motion it slides onto the teeth railing 15 having a teeth rack. This helps in controlled movement of the pusher button 27 and the action creates a compression of the bellows 36. The polishing compound gets pushed to the cartridge nozzle tube 34 and dispenses through the cartridge nozzle 35 on to the brush bristles 19A, 19B avoids smudging and throwing the polishing compound on the internal and external walls of the main body 1. This feature increases the efficiency of the quantity of the polishing compound to be applied, additionally, it also cleans the orifice of the cartridge nozzle tube 34 from any remnant polishing compound left out on it. The entire cartridge assembly which is attached to the main body 1 through the cartridge dispensing track is removable by pulling the assembly in backward direction. This is done specifically to remove the empty cartridge by opening the refill cover 25.
The refill cover 25 is two chambered as shown in Fig. 7. The two chambers are separated by a Chamber septum 11. The front chamber is the polishing compound dispenser chamber 10 which encompasses the cartridge assembly acts. The second chamber is the deodoriser-aerosol chamber which has a holder 48 to hold the deodoriser-aerosol can 37. In front of the aerosol can 37 has two embodiments for the aerosol dispensing, an aerosol dispensing tube 40, followed by an extension of the tube through aerosol nozzle 13A & 13B further extending the tube with aerosol extension tube 39. The external portion of the cover has a spray button 46 at its back end placed above the aerosol dispensing tube 40, pressing the spray button 46 releases the aerosol from the aerosol extension tube 39 from the bottom of the device as seen in Fig.3 on to the application surface thereby having deodorising and disinfecting effect on the application surface. The aerosol can 37 is replicable by removing the refill cover 25. The back portion of the bottom surface of the main body 1 as shown in Fig. 1 & 9, embodies a battery holding space located behind the motor. This space has a battery 24 which powers the motor 21 to generate rotary motion. The device is controlled through the four buttons 47, which has the pre-set function of switch on/off, speed level 1, 2 & 3 respectively. The working state of the device is indicated through the light indicators 44 as indicated in Fig 1, next to which lies the power charging point 45 for changing battery 24. Furthermore, the front portion of the main body 1 is covered by a detachable brush cap 16. The function of the brush cap 16 in Fig. 9 is to protect the brush assembly during storage or transportation. Additionally the internal surface of the brush cap 16 has a longitudinal cap septum 16A which divides the internal surface into two dust collecting chamber 16B from the brush bristles 19A, 19B when it is rotating with the brush cap 16 covering the main body 1 during the operation. The brush bristles 19A, 19B are in different contours of the brush. The first contour long bristles 19A is proximal to the hanging holder 41. The first contour is raised in height compared to the second contour short bristles 19B, which is near to the D-cut socket 20 of the brush base 17. While application of the brush to surface with features such as ridge, cavities and bends, the long bristles 19A, establishes a very close contact helps in deep cleaning the surface. While the short bristles 19B works best for surfaces having flat feature. The brush assembly is removable from the motor 21, by opening the dead centre holder 43, which holds the conical dead centre 18 of the brush. The hanging holder is attached to the hinge 38present on the front end of the main body 1 with the help of hinge lock 42. Brushes of varying hardness can be used by interchanging them in the device by opening and closing of the hinge lock 42 to get appropriate cleaning of the application surface.
