Definitions
- the present invention relates to a cigarette filter and a cigarette including the same, and more particularly to a cigarette filter excellent in nitrogen oxide (NOx) removal efficiency from mainstream smoke and a cigarette including the same.
- NOx nitrogen oxide
- Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2002-119270 describes a tobacco filter in which procyanidins are contained in a filament constituting the filter.
- an object of the present invention is to provide a cigarette filter capable of efficiently removing nitrogen oxides and a cigarette including the filter, and a cigarette equipped with the filter.
- a cigarette filter including a cigarette filter material to which 2 ferrule 4, 4, 5, 5-tetramethylimidazoline 3 oxido 1 oxyl is attached.
- a cigarette provided with the cigarette filter of the present invention.
- FIG. 1 is a graph showing the NO reduction rate in the mainstream smoke of the cigarette produced in Example 1 described in detail later together with that of the comparative example.
- FIG. 2 is a graph showing the NO reduction rate in the mainstream smoke of the cigarette produced in Example 2 described in detail later together with that of the comparative example.
- Figure 3 shows the NO reduction rate in the mainstream smoke of the cigarette produced in Example 3 which will be described in detail later.
- FIG. 4 is a graph showing the NO reduction rate in the mainstream smoke of the cigarette produced in Example 4 described in detail later together with that of the comparative example.
- the cigarette filter of the present invention is a cigarette filter material in which 2 felt 4, 4, 5, 5-tetramethylimidazoline 1-oxide 1-oxyl (PTIO) is attached.
- PTIO 5-tetramethylimidazoline 1-oxide 1-oxyl
- PTIO which is an active ingredient for removing nitrogen oxides in the cigarette filter of the present invention, is a compound known per se (see, for example, JP-A-9-43153).
- a porous granular carrier such as cellulose acetate fiber tow, filter paper, activated carbon and the like can be used.
- cellulose acetate fiber tow When cellulose acetate fiber tow is used as a raw material, it can be attached by spraying PTIO onto the fiber tow. If filter paper is used, PTIO can be impregnated in the filter paper. The filter material thus obtained can be scraped off by a normal method and connected to one end of the cigarette.
- a porous granular carrier such as activated carbon
- the obtained PTIO-supported particle is added to a force tow filled with a loose cavity.
- a plain filter is provided at both ends of the filter paper tube, and the cavity between the plain filters is filled with PTIO-supported particles.
- PTIO-supported particles are dispersed between the fibers of the acetate filter in the same manner as the cigarette filter of commercial cigarettes.
- PTIO is preferably 3 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of filter material.
- PTIO significantly reduces NO and NOx in cigarette mainstream smoke even in wet conditions, which are equivalent to actual smoking conditions.
- ⁇ (Wako Pure Chemical Industries, Ltd., CAS: 18390-00-6) 10mg, 30mg, 50mg and lOOmg are completely dissolved in ethanol 2490mg, 2470mg, 2450mg and 2400mg, respectively. 4 wt%, 1.2 wt%, 2 wt% and 4 wt% PTIO ethanol solutions were prepared. To each ethanol solution was added 1 g of coconut shell activated carbon (manufactured by Nihon Enviguchi Chemicals, Inc .; specific surface area: about 1200 m 2 Zg) previously dried in a vacuum at 200 ° C., and stirred for 60 seconds with a test tube mixer.
- coconut shell activated carbon manufactured by Nihon Enviguchi Chemicals, Inc .; specific surface area: about 1200 m 2 Zg
- PTIO-impregnated activated charcoal obtained using an ethanol solution with a PTIO concentration of 0.4% by weight is impregnated with PTIO equivalent to 1% of the weight of the activated carbon (PTIO-attached activated carbon 1), with a PTIO concentration of 1.2% by weight of ethanol.
- the PTIO-impregnated activated carbon obtained using the solution was impregnated with PTIO equivalent to 3% of the weight of the activated carbon (PTIO-attached activated carbon ⁇ ) and obtained using an ethanol solution with a PTIO concentration of 2% by weight.
- PTIO equivalent to 5% of the activated carbon weight (PTIO-added activated carbon III), and PTIO-added activated carbon obtained using an ethanol solution with a PTIO concentration of 4% by weight is PTIO equivalent to 10% of the activated carbon weight.
- PTIO-impregnated activated carbon IV was measured.
- a commercial American blend tobacco rod was used as the tobacco rod.
- One end of this tobacco rod was fitted with a filter plug filled with PTIO-attached activated carbon obtained above.
- the filter plug is a 5 mm long plain filter (also cellulose acetate fiber tuka) attached to both ends, and the cavity between the plain filters is filled with PTIO-attached activated carbon particles at 0, 50, 100, and 200 mg. Yes, the ventilating holes were not strong.
- the obtained cigarette sample was set in a smoker (RM26 manufactured by Borgwaldt) and burned under the following conditions.
- the NO and NOx concentrations were measured by chemiluminescence.
- the weights of concentration power NO and NOx obtained were calculated, and the calculated weight values for all puffs and empty puffs were summed to obtain the delivery amount per cigarette.
- a similar cigarette sample was prepared using activated carbon without PTIO, and the amount of delivery per cigarette was determined in the same manner.
- FIG. 1 shows the NO reduction rate (%).
- line a shows the results when using PTI O-loaded activated carbon I
- line b shows the results when using PTIO-loaded activated carbon II
- line c shows the results when using PTIO-loaded activated carbon III
- the line d shows the results when PTIO-impregnated activated carbon IV is used
- the line e shows the results when PTIO-free activated carbon is used.
- Fig. 1 show that the filter containing PTIO-impregnated activated carbon particles significantly reduces the amount of NO compared to the activated carbon particles containing PTIO.
- activated carbon loaded with PTIO 3 to: L0 weight% has a significantly high NO reduction effect.
- the NOx reduction rate showed the same tendency as the NO reduction rate.
- Example 2 The PTIO-impregnated activated carbon II prepared in Example 1 was subjected to moisture absorption until equilibrium was reached at a temperature of 22 ° C. and a relative humidity of 60%, to obtain a moisture-absorbing PTIO-added activated carbon III.
- a cigarette was prepared in the same manner as in Example 1 except that this moisture-absorbing PTIO-impregnated activated carbon III was used, and the NO reduction rate in mainstream smoke was determined. The result is shown in figure 2.
- line a shows the results when using moisture-absorbing PTIO-impregnated activated carbon III
- line b shows the results when using activated carbon that has been subjected to moisture absorption except that PTIO is not attached. From the results shown in Fig.
- Example 1 The cigarette sample produced in Example 1 was burned under the same conditions as in Example 1 except that the smoke absorption capacity was changed to a 35 mLZ puff. A cigarette sample using PTIO-free activated carbon was also burned with a smoke absorption capacity of 35 mLZ puff, and the NO reduction rate in mainstream smoke was calculated. The results are shown in Figure 3.
- line a shows the results when PTIO-impregnated activated carbon III is used
- line b shows the results when PTIO-unattached activated carbon is used. From the results shown in Fig. 3, although the NO reduction rate is reduced by increasing the smoke absorption capacity, compared to the case of Example 1, the sample using PTIO-added activated carbon III uses PTIO-free activated carbon. It can be seen that the NO reduction rate is significantly higher than that of the cigarette sample. The NOx reduction rate showed the same trend as the NO reduction rate.
- Example 4 The same cigarette sample (using hygroscopic PTIO) as in Example 2 was burned under the same conditions as in Example 3, and the NO reduction rate was calculated. The NO reduction rate was also calculated for cigarette samples using activated carbon without PTIO. The results are shown in Fig. 4. In Fig. 4, line a shows the results when PTIO-impregnated activated carbon was used, and line b shows the results when PTIO-unattached activated carbon was used. From the results shown in Fig. 4, although the NO reduction rate is reduced by increasing the smoke absorption capacity, the sample using PTIO-added activated carbon is a cigarette using PTIO-free activated carbon. It can be seen that the NO reduction rate is significantly higher than the sample. Again, the NOx reduction rate showed the same trend as the NO reduction rate.
- the cigarette filter of the present invention can efficiently remove nitrates from tobacco mainstream smoke.
