THOMAS P. GREGER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A MANHOLE-COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design NO. 30,805, dated May 16, 1899.
Application filed April 6. 1899. Serial No. 712,017. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it 11mg concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS P. GREGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a ManholeCover, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanyingdrawings, forming part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a top or plan View of a manholecover embodying my design, and Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of Fig. 1.
The two views are deemed necessary and essential for the proper illustration of the design.
The essential feature of my design consists in the configuration, as wellas in the ornamentation,of the manhole-cover, as illustrated and as hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, the body a of the manhole-cover is circular in outline and substantially cup shaped in form. When viewed in plan, the surface ornamentation of the cover comprises an annular ring or rim 1), within which is inclosed a circular field d.
When viewed in cross-section, the annular rim 1) has an outer face I) and an inner face b both tapering downward toward the base of the cover e. The base 6 is bulged inward, as at e, toward the center of the field (i, and the tapered inner face b of the ringb merges into the convex surface 6' of the base e by means of a concave extension 11 The exterior tapered face I) of the ring I) has an extension b at the base, which extension is arranged at a right angle to the face I) and at a right angle to the tapered outer periphery e of the base e of the cover.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a manhole-cover, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS P. GREGER.
Witnesses:
J. WALTER DOUGLASS, THOMAS M. SMITH.
