G. L. RUPF.
JEWELRY CHARM.
No. 16,448. Patented Deo.29,1885.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GREGORY L. RUFF, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A JEWELRY-CHARM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,448, dated December 29, 1885.
Appiicationiflled October 26, 1855. Serial No. 181.014. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GREGORY L. RUFF, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State ol' Pennsylvania, have invented a new and original Design for Jewelry-Charms; and I do hereby declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing, formiing pai-tof this speeileation, which represents my design by a perspective view.
My design relates to a jewelry-charm5 and it consists in an open book, swords extending diagonally across the book, and a skeleton hand extending over the swords resting onthe book and holding them down onto the boozk.
My design also consists in the combination, with the open book, crossed swords, and skele ton hand, of a sunlike extension at the. top of the book.
In the accompanying drawing, a is the open book, over which extend the swords b, the handles of the swords resting in the upper corners of the book, and the blades extending diagonally over the book toward the lower corners thereof, the swords crossing eachother at about the center of the book. Extending over these swords where they cross each other is the skeleton hand c, the hand thus holding the swords down upon the book. Atithe top ofthe open book a is the extension d, having a semicrcular portion, e, in which may be placed a precious stone, and a series of lines extending radially therefrom, thus imparting to the extension the appearance of the rising sun. The extension has also radial slots f therein, and at the top thereof` are balls g, While the edges of the extension are starshaped between these balls.
The charm may be used as a pin or as a pendant, and in the latter case is provided with aloop, h, to connect it with a suitable link or chain.
that I claim as my design, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The design for a jewelry-charm: herein shown and described, consisting of an open book. swords extending diagonally across the book, and a skeleton hand extending over the swords and holding them down onto the book.
2. The design for a jewelryeharm herein shown and described, consisting in an: open book, a. skeleton hand extending over the swords and holding them down onto the book, swords extending diagonally across the book, and the sun-like extension at the top of the book.
In testimony whereof I, the said GREGORY L. RUFF, have hereunto set my hand.
GREGORY L. RUFF.
