PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR A. DE LONG, OF \VILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO EAGLE PENCIL COMPANY, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
DISPLAY-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,592, dated September 6, 1904,
Application filed March 3,1904. Serial No. 196,298. (No m del.)
To all whom, [it may concern.-
Be it known that LOSCAR A. DE Loam-a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Williamsport, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to portable display racks or holders for pens, pencils, pocketknives, and other articles; and it consists of a holder composed of a plurality of sections or blocks provided with pockets or receptacles to receive the ends of the pencils or other artieles to be displayed, said blocks when folded together lying side by side in the form of a sectional rectangular block and being united all at the same end each to the other by a hinge between the contiguous parallel edges of adjoining blocks, as hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display-holder embodying my invention, the display sections or blocksin this instance six in numberbc ing folded together side by side in the most compact form for transportation. Fig. 2. is a longitudinal vertical section of one of the blocks. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the holder, showing the blocks unfolded and spread apart so as to extend radially from a common center.
The display-blocks-six in number in this instance are indicated at A. They may be of any suitable construction and material and are provided each with a series of vertical pockets (4 of suitable shape and construction to receive and hold the pencils, pens, pocketknives, or other articles to be displayed. In this instance they are designed for pencils, one of which is shown at B.
The blocks or sections A are shownin Fig. 1 folded together so as to be side by side and in parallelism, forming when thus assembled a sectional block of rectangular contour. The sections A are jointed together all at the same end by a strip of suitable flexible or pliable material C, textile or otherwise, which is pasted or glued to one end of the assembled blocks A, as seen in Fig. 1. The sections A when thus connected can be unfolded and swung apart upon their hinges in order to provide a display arrangement. One arrangement of the sections for this purpose is shown in Fig. 3, wherein the hinged ends of the sections A describe a hexagonal figure, from which the sections themselves radiate, thus forming a pleasing display rack or holder.
I do not limit myself to the particular number of sections A employed. 1 have shown the sections A as capable of supporting each a dozen pencils; but obviously the number of pockets with which the sections are provided can be varied at pleasure.
\VhatI claim herein as new and of my own invention is as follows:
The display holder or rack consisting of sections or blocks provided with pockets for reception of the pens, pencils, poclzet-lmives or the like, to be displayed, adapted to lie side by side when folded together, and a pliable strip O, applied and secured to one end of the assembled sections and forming the flexible bond of union between them.
Signed at New York this 23d day of J anuary, 190%.
, OSCAR A. DE LONG.
