DEVICE FOR INSERTING INNER OF DORRANGE, KANSAS.
TUBES INTO PNEUMATIC TI RES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 679, 7, at d y 1901- Application filed May 10,1901. Serial No. 59,630. (No model.)
To atZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that LWILLIAM I-I. CRABTREE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dorrance, in the county of Russell and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Inserting the Inner Tubes into Double-Tube Pneumatic Tires, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for inserting the inner tubes into double-tube pneumatic tires.
The object of my invention is to construct a device which may be coiled up and carried in small compass and be uncoiled and used whenever desired. Novel means for securing the tire thereto is also provided. This is accomplished by the simple construction described in this specification and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device with the center part broken away. Fig. 2 is a side view of the clamp. Fig. 3 is a perspective of the coiled end and guide. Fig. 4: is a view showing the application of my device to a bicycle-tire.
Like numerals of reference designate like parts in the difierent views of the drawings.
The numeral 1 designates a narrow stiff steel tape, which has a turned-over or coiled end 2. Adjacent to the end 2'is a guide member 3, consisting of a circular disk rigidly secured thereto and turned up at the edges. The opposite end of the tape has attached thereto a clamp 4:, formed of a single piece of wire and comprising a hook 5, two parallel l members 6, and a ring above and parallel to the plane of the parallel members 6.
In practice the coiled end 2 is inserted in the opening in the outer tube of the tire and the tape 1 fed forward by hand and inserted full length. The tu rned-over end 2 keeps the end of the tape from catching, and the guide 3 prevents the tape doubling back on itself. After the end 2 issues from the other side of the opening in the tire it is grasped and the inner tube secured to the clamp 4 and drawn into the outer tube. I
I do not wish to be limited as to details of construction, as these may be changed in many particulars without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A device of the class described, comprising a steel tape having one end turned over or coiled and bearing a guide member, and a clamp attached to the other end of said tape, substantially as described.
2. A device of the class described, compris ing a steel tape coiled at one end and provided with means for attaching a tire-tube to the other end, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
W'ILLIAM H. ORABTREE.
