No. 880,479, filed Dec. 10, 1969, now U.S. Pat. No. 3,604,527 granted Sept. 14, 1971 and also of my previous U.S. patent application Ser. No. 672,095 filed Oct. 2, 1967, now abandoned, and which was copending with said U.S. application Ser. No. 880,479.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention combines an engine which has a separable base with a wheeled framework having laterally spaced vertical side beams between which the separable base of the engine is integrated to stiffen and re-enforce the framework. The engine base comprises a hollow, upwardly open box nested between said beams and has vertical end walls fastened in face relation to the vertical frame beams. The nested box is removably mounted between said beams by releasable fasteners. The walls of the base and the beams are substantially co-equal in height, whereby the nested base fills the frame space between the top and bottom edges of the beams and is concealed between said beams.
DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS FIGS. 1 through 8 are illustrated and described in said copending patent application Ser. No. 880,479.
FIGS. 1 and 2 accompany this application.
DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Although the disclosure hereof is detailed and exact to enable those skilled in the art to practice the invention, the physical embodiments herein disclosed merely exemplify the invention which may be embodied in other specific structure. The scope of the invention is defined in the claims appended hereto.
The entire disclosure of said copending U.S. patent application Ser. No. 880,479, filed Dec. 10, 1969, now U.S. Pat. No. 3,604,527 granted Sept. 14, 1971 is incorporated herein by reference.
I claim:
1. A tractor subassembly comprising laterally spaced vertical side beams and cross beams connected together to form a rigid tractor framework, an engine having a separable base which is integrated with the framework to stiffen and re-enforce the framework, said engine base comprising a hollow, upwardly open box nested between said side beams and having vertical end walls fastened in face relation to the vertical side beams, said box further comprising side walls spanning between said end walls and a bottom, the hollow interior of the base constituting an oil pan for the engine.
2. The invention of claim 1 in which the nested base is removably mounted between said beams by releasable fasteners.
3. The invention of claim 1 in which the walls of the base and the beams are substantially co-equal in height, whereby the nested base fills the frame space between the top and bottom edges of the beams and is concealed between said beams.
