Description

March 22, 1955 o. D. LOUCK 2,704,536
GRAB uoox FOR FISHERMEN AND THE LIKE Fil ed Nov. 24, 1952' United States Patent O GRAB HOOK FOR FISHERMEN AND THE LIKE Omer D. Louck, Monmouth, 111.
Application November 24, 1952, Serial No. 322,218
1 Claim. (Cl. 294-66) The present invention relates to a grab hook for fishermen and the like and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.
Generally there is provided a grab hook which includes as a part of its construction a swivelly mounted shank to the outer end of which is afiixed a plurality of prongs and the device is such that when it is dragged along the bottom from a boat or cast from a bank, it will roll upon the bottom due to the swivel mounting of the shank thus preventing damage to the line fastened thereto due to twisting, tangling and the like.
It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a device of the character 'set forth which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and yet eifective and efiicient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision, in a device of the character set forth, of a novel swivel mounting for the shank portion of a grab hook, forming a part of the invention.
Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in conjunction with the drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an embodiment of the invention, and
Figure 2 is an end elevational view thereof.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, there is shown therein a grab hook of the character set forth comprising an elongated shank having a relatively large washer 11 are welded thereto, as indicated at 12, at the inner end thereof and having a plurality of prongs 13 are welded thereto, as indicated at 14, at the outer end thereof.
A block 15 is provided centrally with an opening 16 through which extends a bolt 17 having a conventional head 18 at its inner end and having its outer end welded or otherwise affixed within the inner end of the shank 10, as shown at 19. An eye 20 is pivotally mounted in the opposing sides of the block 15.
In use, it will be apparent that a line may be fastened to the eye 20 and the device then utilized in the manner of an ordinary grab hook with the exception, however, that as the present device is moved along the bottom of a stream or the like, the prongs 13 and shank 10 will swivel with relation to the eye 20 due to the action of the bolt 17 being swivelly and freely mounted in the opening 16 of the block 15 with the result that entangling or twisting of the line fastened to the eye 20 becomes impossible.
While but one form of the invention has been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A device of the character described comprising a block, an eye pivotally connected to the sides of said block, a shank, a plurality of prongs welded to the outer end of said shank, a washer welded to the inner end of said shank, said block having a central opening therethrough, a bolt freely extending through said opening and said washer and afiixed to the inner end portion of said shank, and a head fixed to the outer end of said bolt.
