It will be observed that the clamping device affords a very firm support for the paint bucket and retains it in proper position for use. The construction is simple, cheap to manufac ture, and durable in use.

While reference is made to the device as a paint bucket holder, it is obvious that it is applicable to hold any type of bucket or can which is provided with an inwardly extending lip at its upper surface.

The drawings and the foregoing specification constitute a description of the improved paint bucket holder in such full, clear, concise and exact terms as to enable any person skilled in the art to practice the invention, the scope of which is indicated by the appended claims,

What I claim as my invention is:

1. In a bucket holder, a hook engageable over a step of a ladder and including a portion extending outside one of the side members of the ladder, a support bar on said portion, and a pair of clamping members pivoted to said support bar, said clamping members comprising an inner member having depending legs each terminating in a hook engageable over the lip of a bucket, and a cross-member at the bottom of said legs curved to fit beneath the bucket lip.

2. A holder as defined in claim 1, said clamping members comprisingan outer member having depending legs considerably longer than the legs of said inner member, and a cross-member at the bottom of said legs curved to conform to the exterior of a bucket.

3. A bucket holder comprising a support having portions shaped to engage over a step and side member of a step ladder and including a horizontal bar spaced laterally from the side member of the ladder, an inner clamp formed of wire having spaced vertical legs, eyes at the upper end of said legs pivoted to said bar, and a curved cross piece connecting the lower ends of said legs adapted to extend beneath the lip of a bucket, an outer clamp formed of wire having spaced vertical legs, eyes at the upper end of said legs pivoted to said bar, and a curved cross piece connecting the lower ends of said legs curved to conform to the outer surface of a bucket.

4. A holder as defined in claim 3 in which the legs of the outer clamp are substantially longer than those of the inner clamp to position its cross piece substantially below the top of the bucket. s

5. A holder as defined in claim 4 including a cross bar connected between the legs of each of said clamps adapted to register when said clamps are in closed position, and locking means interconnecting said bars to hold said clamps in closed 6. A holder as defined in claim 5, said locking means comprising a screw carried by one of said bars and a tapped opening in the other member.
