SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 264,316, dated September 12, 1882.
Application filed May 31, 1882.
To all 'lC/LOHL it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES W. MCMILLEN, ot' Alton,1llinois, and GEORGE A. MCMILLEN,
ot'Edwardsville, Illinois, have jointly made a.
new and usei'ul Improvement in Vehicles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference beinghad to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a view in perspective, showing the improvement in position Fig. 2, adetail, being a sectional view showing a modification of the joint; and Fig. 3, a detail, being a sectional view showing the knob upon the upper end of one of the top supports, as when the top is not used.
The same letters denote the same parts.
The present invention is an improvementin vehicles having removable canopy-tops.
B represents the body of the wagon, or what ever form of vehicle the improvement is used in connection with.
C represents the frame of the canopy-top,
'having the rooi'-frame c and the standards 0 o.
The standards are detaohably connected with the supports 1) D. The supports are fixtures upon the body B, and are in the form shown at l). The upper end, 01, of the support is extended upward above the vehicle-body, as shown, and is threaded, and the lower end of (No model.)
the standard is connected therewith by means of a thimble, such as E. The lower end of the standard is finished as shown at 0 Fig. 3, having the shoulder 0 and the end 0 engaging in a socket, d, in the support, and the thimble E, suitably shaped to draw upon the upper side of the shoulder a and hold the standard down upon the support.
The canopy-top can be readily detached from the supports by unscrewing the thimbles E. This leaves the threaded ends 61 d exposed. Accordingly, afterdetachingthe canopy'topms described, knobs such as F, Fig.3, are screwed upon the ends (1. This not only gives a iinish to the upper ends of the supports when the top is not in use, but the knobs also serve as handles in using the vehicle.
We claim A wagon-body, B, provided with supports D, having upwardlyprojecting and threaded ends (1, combined with top 0, having standard c, with the shoulder 0 and the thiinble E, substantially as described.
