Description

0. F. GEORGE. Soldering Tweezers for Jewelers.
No. 201,404. Patented March 19, I878.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES F. GEORGE, OF FAIRFIELD, IOWA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO ALBERT A. JUDSON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN SOLDERING-TWEEZERS FOR JEWELERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 201,404, dated March 19, 1878; application filed July 18, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. GEORGE,
of Fairfield, Iowa, have invented Soldering Tweezers, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to construct soldering-tweezers for jewelers use, in such a manner as to hold firmly small articles of oval form, such as oval part of eardrops, oval studs, and other articles of similar form, and are to consist of two spring-arms, as in ordinary soldering-tweezers having slots, one having a grooved T-shaped point, the other a cupshaped point, the two to be held firmly together, or allowed to separate, by a slide consisting of a headed pin whose shank passes through the slot in both arms of the tool, and onto which is riveted a washer, the Washer and inside of the head forming bearing-surfaces on outside of the arms. For example, to show operation, if a hook is to be soldered to an oval ear-drop, place the cup-shaped point of the tweezers on the oval side of the drop; then put the hook in place on the opposite side, and allow the grooved T-shaped point to press on the wire hook, pressing both parts firmly, when the parts can be soldered without danger of slipping.
If desired, the tweezers can be made fast or locked by pushing the slide toward the points, with work in place, and can then be laid aside without disarranging the parts to be soldered.
I claim as my invention The soldering tweezers consisting of the spring-arms having slots, one having a grooved T-shaped point, the other a cup-shaped point, and a slide playing in the slots and bearing on the outside of the spring-arms, substantially as and for the purpose described.
CHARLES F. GEORGE.
