IMPROVEMENT lIN CLINCHING HORSESHOE-NAILS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 19,993, dated April 20, 1858.

Be it known'that l, JAMES HOUOK, of Olinton township, in the county of Putnam and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved implement to facilitate the process of clinching the nails on a horseshoe after the shoe has 'been adjusted to the foot and the nails driven in, and for rasping Off the hoof and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specication, in whichl A is a post about two feet in height, two

. inches in diameter at the bulge in the center,

and tapering toward the top to about threefourths of aninch in diameter. B is a band around the top; C, an iron or steel cap or plate, about two inches in diameter, secured to the top of the post. D is a wooden or metal plate into which the post may be inserted, and to be secured by bolts or screws, and

post, and with the rim of the cap fitting between the inner edges of the shoe and the hoof, which holds the foot steady for clinching the nails and rasping the hoof.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is*

llhe use of the post A, whenv constructed with the cap C and band B, in the manner and for the purposes described in my specification.
