This invention relates to surgery, and more particularly to devices for curing ingrowing toe nails; and theobject of the same is to eii'ect improvement upon devices of this character herein constructed.

Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is simple in construction, easy to apply, inexpensive to manufacture and thoroughly eiiicient and reliable for the purposes intended. I

With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail itwill be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a body plate having a pair of arm extensions 6 disposed in opposite direction and terminating in curved jaws 7 to engage under the sides of the nail 8.

This body plate 5 also includes an arm 9 extending at substantial right angles to the arm 6 from the plate 5 and curved over upon itself to terminate under the plate 5 in a disk 10. A threaded shank is engaged through the center of the body plate 5 to bear against the disk 10.

A look nut 12 is engaged on the threaded element 11. In applying the device the aws 7 are engaged over the sides of the nail and a spring or the like let is engaged through the overlapping portions of the arm extension 9 and about the finger or toe 15.

At various intervals the element 11 is operated to separate the disk 10 from the body plate 5 thus causing the jaws to lift the sides of the nail upwardly or out of the skin of the finger or toe and thus gradually the ingrowing nail may be cured. It is preferable to 1928. Serial No. 293,448.

It is thought the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be clearly understood by those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.

The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerable detail for the purpose of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.

It is apparent that changes in the details of construction, in the material, and in the sizes and proportions of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

l. A device of the class described comprising a body plate having arm extensions disposed oppositely and terminating in curved ends forming jaws to engage the sides of a nail, and the curved arm extension curved over upon itself terminating in a disk under the plate, and means for separating the plate from the disk.

2. A device of the class described comprising a body plate having arm extensions disposed oppositely and terminating in curved ends forming jaws to engage the sides of a nail, and the curved arm extension curved over upon itself terminating in a disk under the plate, a threaded element through the plate to engage the disk for separating the disk from the plate.
