- Objects of this invention are to provide a novel form of refrigerating counter in which a a depressed metal body portion is provided and is adapted to directly receive the food, and in which a refrigeratingliunit is held in metal to metal contact with the depressed metal food receiving member so as to provide to for the chilling of the member by direct conduction, and to so construct the counter that a completely enclosing hood is provided which wholly covers the upper portion of the depressed member and prevents any possible in circulation of air, thereby maintaining the air absolutel still within the counter and allowing a ense chilled blanket of'air to accumulate in the depressed portion without any chance of circulation and consequently so without any currents of chilled air being initiated within the enclosed counter.

This invention relates to refrigerating counters. Objects of this invention are to provide a novel form of refrigerating counter in which a a depressed metal body portion is provided and is adapted to directly receive the food, and in which a refrigeratingliunit is held in metal to metal contact with the depressed metal food receiving member so as to provide to for the chilling of the member by direct conduction, and to so construct the counter that a completely enclosing hood is provided which wholly covers the upper portion of the depressed member and prevents any possible in circulation of air, thereby maintaining the air absolutel still within the counter and allowing a ense chilled blanket of'air to accumulate in the depressed portion without any chance of circulation and consequently so without any currents of chilled air being initiated within the enclosed counter.

Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the refrigerating counter comprises a m body portionhaving side walls 1, end walls 2, and a bottom wall 3. These walls may be of any suitable stance, as wood or metal, and within the body portion, the depressed metal food rematerial, such for in 1928. Serial No. 268,692.
ceiving portion 4; is positioned. This food receiving portion is reenforced and carried at its side edges by the longitudinal Wooden strips 5, and at its end edges by the trans verse wooden strips 6, as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
The upper edge of the depressed metal portion 4 has turned over flanges 7, as is apparent from the drawings. Beneath this metal body portion a refrigerating unit 8 is positioned and is held in any suitablemanner in metal to metal contact with the bottom of the body portion. A convenient way of holding this refrigerating unit in position is by means of the metal bottom portion 9 which is caused to clamp the refrigerating unit 8 in direct metal to metal to metal contact so that direct conduction is the mode whereby cooling is effected.
This refrigerating unit may be of any suitable form such for instance as shown in my prior Patent No. 1,552,949 of September 8, 1925, for refrigerating counters, and in my Patent N 0. 1,655,025 of January 3, 1928, for refrigerating counters.
The unit chosen for illustration is provided with a plurality of pipes or aperatures 10 with which an inlet pipe 11 and an outlet pipe 12 communicate. If desired, the accessories for this refrigerating unit may be carried in the lower portion of the counter below the bottom 3. Applicant has developed many forms of units and any form will operate with this counter.
vThe space between the depressed metal body portion and the outer walls is filled by a high grade thermal insulating material 18 which prevents any conduction of heat from the outside to the inside. Further, the upper portion of the counter is covered at its edges by means of the counter-like portion proper M- which extends along its sides and ends, as is apparent from. the drawings.

The top of the counter is completely covered by a glass hood indicated generally by the reference character 17, so that there is no possible chance of cross air currents or any air currents which wiildisturb the blanket of dense chilled air accumulating in the depressed body portion. The air naturally settles in this depressed body portion as it becomes dense and chilled and the cover directly cooperates to avoid any disturbance of this blanket of sealed air.
Any suitable type of doors, such as indicated by the reference character 18 may be employed to provide. access to the interior of the counter and preferably these doors are also formed of glass to enhance the appearance of the device.
It will be seen that a novel form of refrigerating counter has been provided in which a dense chilled air blanket covers the food entirely and also is guarded against external disturbances, such as cross air currents, so that it remains permanently in the depressed metal conducting body portion.
Further it is to be noted that by means of this arrangement there is no circulation of chilled air Within the counterand consequently there is no ing of the glass cover. p a
Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, such description isintended as illustrative rather than limiting possible chance of frostas the invention may be variously embodied and as the scope of such invention is to be determined asclaimed.
I claim A conduction refrigerating counter includof the body and receptacle to form an air seal for preventing the circulation of air within the body.
