IMPROVEMENT IN WHIFFLETREE-CLIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,262, dated March 2, 1875 application filed February 3, 1875.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. ALDER ELLIs, of Chicago, county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Whiffletree-Olips, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part thereof.
The nature of my invention consists in casting the band which goes around the whiffletree and the loop by which the whiffletree is secured to the evener all in one piece, but open, as shown, for the purpose of being riveted together cold, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 represents a side view of the clip, broken away at the side, as indicated by the line w m in Fig. 2. Fig.2 represents a plan View of the clip.
A is the band which encircles the whiffletree, and B the loop for securing the attachment of the whiffletree-clip to any desired article. These parts are cast all in one piece,
open, as shown in Fig. 1. After the attachments are made tothe loop, as, for instance, the ring, the end 0 of the loop B is riveted onto the band A. D D are holes cast in the clip for the purpose of receiving the rivet with which end 0 of the loop is riveted to the band, as above described.
I am enabled to niake these clips and attach to them, very readily and permanently, a ring or other suitable contrivance, and then rivet them together. I ordinarily make them of malleable iron, which enables me to make them with greater facility, and rivet them cold more readily.
I claim- The whiffletree-clip having the band A and loop 13 cast in one piece, and open, as shown, to be closed and riveted cold, as and for the purpose specified.
