This invention relates broadly toan improved handle for use in connection with leather bags, pocket books, cameras, brief cases, musical instrument cases, and similar articles of merchandise.

My principle aim is to generally improve upon handle constructions of this character by providing one which is constructed principally from leather and is provided with novel means for attaching the opposite ends in such a way, as to prevent the same from becoming easily disconnected.

The features of construction forming the novelty set forth in the claim hereinafter made, will become apparent from the following description.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the details forming an important factor of the invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the reference character 1 designates the handle proper. This is preferably made up of two plies of leather 2, laced or otherwise connected together along their longitudinal edges. The handle may be of any appropriate configuration. At each end of the handle is an attaching loop 3 of the design shown. This loo-p is connected to the end of the handle through the medium of a novel device represented generally by the reference character &.

This device as shown plainly in Fig. 3, is made from a single piece of metal which is bent upon itself at a point between its ends to provide a tubular bearing or knuckle 5. The end portions 6 are disposed in overlap- Serial No. 103,054.

The loops 3 are attached to the article with which handle is to be used in the customary manner, and a strong and durable connection is thus had which prevents easy disconnection of the loops, and affords a desirable construction in an article of this kind.

The construction and advantages derived from a device of the kind specified will be clear to those skilled in the art after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore a more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.

Nhile the preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it is to be understood that minor changes coming within the field of the invention claimed may be resorted to if desired without departing from the spirit or scope thereof.

Having thus described by invention, what I claim as new is In a handle having a connecting loop at one end, a device for attaching the loop to the handle, comprising a single strip of metal bent between its ends to provide a tubular bearing for connection of the loop, the end portions of the strip being bent into overlapping contact and terminating in anchoring spurs, said spurs being directed at right angles to the overlapping portions, which are enclosed between the plies of the handle, said overlapping portions and spurs being substantially embedded in the material forming the hand strap.
