To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Gnonen RITTENHOUSE, a, citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand Rackets, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to hand bats for balls, and is of the type disclosed in my co-pending application, Serial No. 657,700, filed August 10, 1923.

The object of the present invention is to provide a very simple form of mounting, whereby the bat can be held upon the hand.

Two forms of construction are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a rear elevation of one embodiment,

Figure 2 is a cross sectional view of the same on the line 22 of Figure 1,

Figure 3 is a front elevation,

Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a modified form of construction,

Figure 5 is a cross sectional view on the line 5-5 of Figure 4,

Figure 6 is a front elevation.

In the form of construction illustrated in Figures 1-3 inclusive, an elliptical frame 7 is employed, the space within the frame having interlaced strands 8, providing a resilicnt striking wall. Secured to the rear side of the frame and spaced from this striking wall. are crossed bridge members 9 and 10, one extending longitudinally of the major axis of the frame, the other across said frame. These bridge members may be of flat sheet metal. A finger-engaging strap 11 is secured, as shown at 12, to a cross strap 13 extending along the upper margin of the cross member 10. This strap 13 may have its ends secured by any suitable manner, as by clips 14.. Secured to the lower margin of the cross piece 10, is a strap 14;, having a wrist extension 15 with a wrist-encircling strap 16 provided with a suitable buckle 17.

In using this device the player places his fingers under the strap 11 and buckles the strap 16 around his wrist.

In the form illustrated in Figures 41, 5 and 6, the frame 18 is provided with a resilient striking wall 19. Bridge members in the form of crossed wires 20, have their ends secured in or around the frame, and located Serial No. 684,554.

on this bridge is a plate 21 that may be fastened thereto by rings or wires 22 encircling the wires at their crossing points.

The plate is provided with a finger strap 23 and has a wrist strap 24:. The plate may also be provided in its lower portions with outstanding retaining flanges 25. In this structure the fingers are placed beneath the strap 23 and the strap 24 is buckled around the wrist, the extensions 25 constituting guiding means to more effectively control and hold the bat so that when the hand is twisted the bat will move as desired with it.

From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art with out further description, and it will be un (lQIStOOd that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, is

1. A device of the character set forth, con'iprising a frame, a resilient striking wall having interlaced strands secured to the frame and located within the same, a bridge secured to the frame in rear of the wall, and hand-engaging straps located in rear of the bridge.

2. A device of the character set forth, comprising a frame of generally elliptical form and a resilient striking wall carried thereby, a bridge member in rear of the wall and secured to the frame, said bridge member extending longitudinally of the major axis of said frame and means carried by the bridge member for mounting the device on the hand.

3. A device of the character set forth, comprising a frame, a resilient striking wall having interlaced strands secured to the frame and located within the same, a bridge comprising crossed members secured to the frame, and means carried by the bridge members for mounting the device on the hand.
