Description
vii. N. ULMER GASOLINE PRICE DEVICE Filed Aug. 27. 1923 INVENTOR VVf/Mm/V. U/mer Patented Oct. 7, 1924.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM N,'ULME R, OF REIDMDND, WASHINGTON, ASSIGNOR- OF CHARLES D. ULMER, 01 PORT ANGELES, WASHINGTON.
GAso'Lnvn Peron DEVICE.
Application filed August 27,1923. Serial No. 659,664.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM N. ULMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Redmond, county of King, and State of Vashington, have invented a new and useful Gasoline Price Device; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact specification, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention is a device that may be at taohed to the pump at gasoline stations which will make it possible for the operator to determine the amount to charge for any number of gallons of gasoline.
The object of the invention is to provide a device that may readily be attached to the pump at gasoline stations which is provided with a table having the total price of 0 any number of gallons of gasoline at a fixed rate per gallon.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device for determining the total price of any number of gallons of gasoline which is simple and durable and which may readily be attached to the gasoline pump.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device for readily determining the total price of any number of gallons of gasoline which may readily be adjusted for different prices per gallon.
With these ends in view the invention embodies a casing having a longitudinal groove in it with a glass covering the outer side of the groove, a door at the lower end of the groove, and a spring for holding strips against the inside of the glass.
Other features and advantages ofthe invention will appear from the following de scription taken in connection with the draw ing, wherein Figure 1 is a front view.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section.
Figure 3 is a cross section. through the de vice showing straps for holding the device to a gasoline pump.
Figure 4 is a bottom view.
In the drawings I have shown my device wherein numeral 1 indicates the casing which is provided with a groove 2 which extends from the lower end to a point 3 ad jacent the upper end and which may be provided with a cover 4 having a longitudinal opening 5 in it. A door 6 may be pivoted at the lower end of the casing upon a pin 7 so that it may readily be moved about the pivot to open the lower end of the groove. The door is provided with a notch 8 as shown in Figure 4 which may snap into a similar notch in the lower end of the casing to hold the door in the closed position. The glass 9 may be placed in the groove which will bear against the inner side of the cover 4 and completely close the opening 5, and a spring 10 may be placed in the lower side of the groove and held by rivets 11 so that a strip of cardboard 12 having numerals upon its face may be held against the glass. It
- is understood the strip of cardboard 12 may be withdrawn from the lower end of the groove and replaced and may be made as shown in Figure 1 with a column of figures 13 indicating numbers of gallons, a large figure 14 at the top, and another column of figures 15 containing the amounts of the dift'erent numbers of gallons at the price as indicated by the numeral at 14c, opposite their respective numerals. It is also understood that any number of these strips of cardboard may be supplied having any desired prices per gallon which may be in cents or fractions of cents and may have amounts opposite the numerals indicating the gallons representing the total price at the rate indicated at the numeral 14. per gallon.
The casing may be provided with straps 16 as shown in Figure 3 which may be held to the side of the casing by rivets or screws 17 at one end and which may be held by snaps 18 in the opposite side of the casing at their opposite ends. It is understood that any number of these straps may be used and they be of any desired length and of any desired material. They may be placed around a post as indicated by the numeral 19 and. snapped on the opposite side of the casing to hold the casing against the postor the like. The casing may also be provided with an eye 20 at its upper end by which it may be hung on a hook or the like.
The construction will be readily under-- stood from the foregoing description. To use the device it may be attached to the side of a gasoline pump as hereinbefore described and as any amount of gasoline is sold the operator may glance at the table and thereby determine immediately the amount to be charged for that amount of gasoline. It is ONE-HALF. TO
also understood that the device may be placed in any desired location and also used for oil or any other merchandise.
Having thus fully described the invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A device of the class described embodying a casing having a longitudinal opening eX- tending upward into its forward side from the bottom; a plate having a longitudinal opening in it that may be placed on the forward side of the casing and arranged so that the edges of the material forming the opening will project over the longitudinal opening in the casing, said opening being rovided With a piece of transparent material that Will bear against the under side of the cover, and a long fiat spring having each end attached to its base, said spring being arranged so that it will hold a card against the under side of the glass in the opening in the casing.
