T 0 all whom z'tmayboncern: V i Be it known that LHARLEY- E. HUTCfi- ISON, a citi'zeno f the United-States, residing at I'Iotchkiss, in .the 'countyof Delta and State ofColorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in "Con tainers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to 'the' ac'com pany-ing drawings.
This invention relates to improvementsin containers and more particularly to improvements in a container adapted for use uponthe counters ofugrocery stores and the like for dispensing honey, slrups and the like. An important object of the invention is to provide a devicefof this character which'is extremely simple in'its' construction, which V purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout.
In the drawings Figure l is a sectional View taken through a container constructed in accordance with my invention; and V Figure 2 is a detail view showing the manner of mounting the oulet in the container.
Referring now more particularly to the I drawings, the numeralllO indicates a container formed of glass and of the desired size and having a large top or filling opening ll provided with a suitable closure 12 preferably formed of the same material.
The opening 11 should be of sufiicient size to permit ready access to the jar for the purpose of cleansing the same. Adjacent 7 its lower end slightly spaced thereabove, an
opening 13 is formed in the container within which is arranged a gasket 14.
' The numeral 15 designates a metallic pipe.
formedupon its inner end with a shoulder 16 which is extended through the gasket 14: and which has interposed between its shoulder 16 and the wall of the container a gasket 17. The outer-end of the pipe 15 projects beyond the outer face of the container wall and is internally and externally screw-threaded, as indicated at l8 and A respectively,v The external screw-threads 19 are adapted for coaction' with a; knurled 'clamping n'ut :20" between which and the outer wal-l-of the container is arranged a gasket2l:
It will be notedthat the open'ing the" wall'of the container is of greater size than the pipe 15 which is directed"therethrough and that the gaskets l6 and 21' are in the formpfwashers'having an internal open- 111g of the same size as the'diameter of th'e pipe 15 and air-external diameter greater thanthe diameter-of the opening Ac cordingly, when the operating or clamping V nut 20 is" turned, the gaskets-'16 andf2l as they are compressed will beforced into the opening between the pipe 15am the edge of the opening 13 therebycompressing the gasket 14 disposed within thisopening in addition to'compressing 21 and assuring'atight fit or" the pipe 15 within the openingl3 without the necessity of applying sufficient pressure thereto to break the walls of the container; The internal screw-threads of the pipe 15 are adapted for the reception of the threaded shank of an outlet cock 2210f any suitable description.
the gaskets 16 and Y The numeral 23 designates the base of the v "container which is preferably formed of wood and is provided in its upper end witha socket 24; closely fitting the base of the container so as to prevent movement thereof. The baseor support 23 is preferably provided with a central opening 25 so that a pan or the like, as indicated at 26, containing hot water may be placed within the base to heat the contents ofthe container 10 in eventof the same becoming candied. Since the clamping element or washer 20 by means of which the spigot outlet'is placed in position within the container wall is readily operableby means of the hand and since the customers of a store are often inclined to handle such objects, Imake the socket 24in which the bottom of the con-n tainer isseated, of 'suflicient depth-that the base projects upwardly to receive this op and accordingly rotation of the washer without first elevating the container will be I impossible.
fFromVthe foregoing it is believed to be 'obviousthat a container constructed in ac:
cordance with my invention provides a device which may be readily cleansed and from which the parts maybe readily re-' moved for cleansing and which at the same 'time is safeguarded against the meddling of customerswhoare curious: It will furthermore be obvious that the structure hereinbeforev set forthis capable of some changeand modification without materially depart. ingfrom the spirit of my invention and I accordingly do not limit myself to such specific structure except as hereinafter claimed,
.11. The combination with a container of the typeidescribed having formed through thefwall thereof an opening adapted for the reception of an outlet fitting, and means including a" hand operated clamping element for securing the outlet fitting in po- 'sition, of" base for said receptacle coacting with the clamping elementf prevent ea reof when the containe i i 7 position uplon the base.
2. The combination with a container of the type described having formed through the wall'the'reof an opening adapted for the reception of an outlet fitting, and means including a hand operated clamping element for securing the outlet fitting in position, the clamping element loeing disposed exteriorlyof the container and releasing the outlet fitting upon movement thereof in a- .direction away from the container, of a base for said, receptacle supporting the receptacle and having portions engaging the clamping element preventing" movement thereof in a direction away from the container when the container is in position upon the base.
3. The combination with a-' containeriof the type described having formed through the wall thereof an opening adapted for-the reception of an outlet fitting, and means in-. cluding a hand operated clamping element for securing the outlet fitting in position, the clamping element beingdisposed ex. teriorly of the container and releasing the outlet fitting upon movement thereof in a direction away from the container, of, a
base for said receptacle having asocket receiving the receptacle and naintainmg. the same against transverse shifting with F613;":
tion to the base one wall of said socket .being provided with. a recessreceiving the lower portion of said clamping element, the outer wall 01' said recessrengaging the outer 'face of the clamping element to prevent movement thereof in a direction away from said container; 1 it I i I p In testimony whereof I hereuntofaflix my signature.
