WATCHCASE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patent d J 24 1922 Application filed August 11, 1920. Serial No. 402,785.
(GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS 01 THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. L, 1313.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS Armani) SoHMn), a citizen of Switzerland, residing at Berne, Switzerland, have invented a new and useful lVatchcase, (for which I have filed application in Switzerland, July 3, 1918, Patent No. 79,203; in France, July 10, 1920; in Italy, July 10, 1920; in Germany, July 10, 1920; in Great Britain, July 29, 1920, and in Japan, October 5, 1920,) of which the following is a specification.
atch-cases are already known, especially those of precious metals, which possess a very light outer casing of precious metal reinforced interiorly by means of various pieces of cheaper metals. These reinforcing pieces determine the form of the watch-case and prevent the casing of precious metal from being indented when a blow or the like is struck on the outer casing. The internal reinforcement is generally provided by means of segments fastened in the case or outer casing by a ring which is sometimes used as the supporting ring for the watch movement, the ring being fastened by a prolongation of the pendant. This known construction has not proved successful in practice owing to the insuflicient contact of the reinforcementwith the outer casing.
The object of the present invention is to provide a watch-case so constructed as to obviate the foregoing disadvantage.
The watch-case forming the subject-matter of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which shows a diagrammatical section of my improved watch-case.
In the drawing, a designates the outer casing which is preferably formed of precious metal and is provided with an internal annular channel in which is placed segments 7) having outer surfaces which conform to the inner surface of the annular channel. The inner surfaces of the segments form a conical seating against which is placed a frusto-conical inner casing c, the head of which engages the inner flat face of the outer casing, and the rim of which engages the inner conical surface formed by the inner surfaces of the segments 6. The inner casing c and segments 6 are secured inthe outer casing a by means of a movement supporting ring d which has a portion of frustoconical shape that engages the inner surface of the inner casing c and is secured in positron by threaded engagement with the outer casing as shown in the drawing. The ring (Z carries the bezel c for the watch-crystal.
It will be understood that the segments 6 and the inner casing c are formed of inexpenslve metal and that they reinforce the outer casing and form lining therefor.
By the present construction the cute precious metal casing is reinforced at all points and blows struck to the outer casing will not cause indentation of the same.
lVhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is i 1. A watch-case comprising an outer casnghaving reinforcing segments engaging lts lnner periphery, the inner surfaces of said segments forming a conical seating, a frusto-conical inner casing having its head engaging the outer casing and its rim engaging the conical seating, and a watch movement supporting member having a threaded connection with said casing and securlng said inner casing in position.
2. A watch-case comprising an outer casing having an internal annular channel, segments arranged in said channel and having outer surfaces which engage the bottom of the channel for reinforcing the rim of the outer casing, the inner surfaces of said segments forming a conical seating, a frustoconical inner casing having a head engaging the inner surface of the outer casing, and a rim engaging the conical seating, a movement supporting ring having a frusto-coni cal portion projecting into the inner casing and reinforcing the rim of the same, threads provided on said outer casing, and threads on said movement supporting ring engaging the other threads for securing the supporting ring to the outer casing.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
L. ARMAND SGHMID.
