Patented'April 1,1873.
INVENTOR.
Fzg l AM PHoTo-LmmmPH/c co. Mmmm/vel# Pnoasss) Locking Devices for a Series of Drawers.. 137,391
WITNESSES. g/fik TES PATENT OFFICE.
GASPAR A. STOCK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT lN LQCKlNG DEVICES FOR A SERIES QF DRAWERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,391, dated April 1, 1873 application filed January 20, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GASPAR A. STOCK, of
` the city,'county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Method of Locking a Series ot' Drawers simultaneously; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being'had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
Similar letters refer to like parts.
The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in locking devices for a series of drawers, which, by the closing of one of them, (by preference the top 0ne,) the remainder of the series are simultaneously locked, and consists ot' a lever, a vertical bar, workin g in appropriate bearings secured to the inside ot' the case containing the drawers, latches pivoted to the vertical bar and held in their positions by springs,L and staples rigidly secured to the rear end of the drawers.
Figure lis a vertical elevation of a series of drawers in a case, M, showing the construction of lthe vertical bar, lever, latches, staples, and the bearings of the vertical bar.
A is the top drawer, provided with an ordinary lock, e, in the front end. B are drawers, which are simultaneously locked by the latches c engaging with the staples d when the vertical bar G is raised by the closed drawer A. c are latches pivoted to the vertical bar G. d are staples`"rigidly secured to the rear ends of the drawers B. a are springs rigidly secured at one end to the vertical bar G, the other ends acting on the latches c, keeping them against pins h in the vertical bar G, and in position to hook onto the staples d should the case M be turned over. f f are the bearings which hold the vertical bar G, and are secured to the inside of the case M.
The dotted lines show the position of the vertical bar G, the lever b', latches c, and the open drawer A.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation, showing the vertical bar, lever, latches, springs, and bearings.
It will readily be seen that as the top kdrawer A is opened the vertical bar G will fall by its own weight, carrying with it the latches c, and bringing the lever b into the position indicated by the dotte'd linesifb, and the latches into the positions c', leaving the remainder of the drawers B unlocked by the latches o being carried away from the staples d.
I have nowfully and particularly described my invention and the manner in which it may be carried into eiiect; and
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The vertical bar G, which by its own weight disengages the latches c, as shown and described.
2. The latches c, suspended from the vcrtical bar G, in combination with the springs a, as and for the purpose described.
3. The vertical bar G, having the lever b, latches c, and springs a, in combination with the staples d, as and for the purpose set forth.
GASPAR A. STOCK.
