COMBINATION-WEAPON.
Specification ofLetters Patent.
Patented Feb. 10, 1920.
Application filed September 15, 1919. Serial No. 823,804.
. chamber of the revolver are carried by the blade, that is pivotally supported on the knife hilt which carries the revolver grip.
A further object of the invention is to provide an extensible grip for a device of the type herein set forth that is capable of extension when desired for certain uses and V which is capable of being shortened when the device is used as a knife. 7
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts herein fully described and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which like reference characters designate similar parts throughout-the several views.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a combination weapon constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Fig. 2 is a top lan view thereof,
Fig. 3 is an en arged fragmentary view with the grip of the revolver shown in section to illustrate the extension block thereof, and
Fig. 4 is a broken cross sectional view taken on line IVIV of Fig. 3 showing the manner of retaining the adjusting screw in position in the grip.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, there is illustrated a knife embodying a blade 5 pivoted as at 6 to the hilt 7, a revolver being associated therewith with the barrel portion thereof positioned at the upper edge of the blade 5.
The barrel 8 of the revolver is suitably secured to the upper edge of the blade 5 and carries the chamber 9 which is breakable with the barrel 8 on the pivotal connection 6 between the blade and hilt, the chamber 9 cooperating with the hilt portion 7 to be as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 with the chamber overlying the hilt extension 10.
A trigger device 11 is carried by the hilt extension 10 and is inclosed by a guard 12 which is connected at its rear end to an enlarged block 13 constituting a grip for the revolver. As shownmore clearly in Figs. 3
and 4, the block or grip 13 is provided with a cylindrical socket 14 into which is slidably received an extension plug 15 having an axial threaded opening 16 into which ex-- tends, for engagement, a screw 17. The inner end of the screw extends into a socket 18 provided in the end wall of the recess 14 and is provided with a reduced portion .19 into whlch the inner end of a set screw 20,
. arranged transversely thereof, is adapted to extend for purposes of retaining the same in position, and at the same time permitting free rotary movement. The outer end of the screw 17 is provided with a key-portion 21 for manipulation of said screw whereby the plug 15 may be moved inwardly and outwardly of the socket 14 for purposes of increasing the length of the grip or shortening the same.
From the above detailed description of the device, it is thought that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, it being noted that when the knife is to be used, the plug 15 may be completely moved into the tubular socket 14 in the grip 13 which will permit the free manipulation of the knife when gripped at the hilt 7. When it is desired to use the revolver, if the grip 13 is not of suflicient length to enable a rigid grasping thereof, plug 15 may be moved outwardly of the socket 14 by operation of the screw 17 to permit a longer grip, to insure the accurate use of the revolver.
While the form of the invention herein shown and described, is what is believed to be the preferable embodiment thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made in the form, combination and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a combined sword and revolver, a revolve grip extending below the sword blade plug slidable in said socket and means carried by one wall of the socket cooperating with said plug: whereby when said plug is 10 rotated, thesameis caused to moveinwardly or outwardly of said socket.
