CABLE-CLIP.
Y Application led .Tuly 11, 1918.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDRIG H. STROM, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cable-Clips; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. p A
My invention has for its obj ect to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet a highly efficient clip for splicing and otherwise connecting two parallel portions of wire cable or the like, provision being made whereby anyV tendency to slip, on the part of the cable, will be utilized to more effectively grip the same.
With the foregoing object in view, the invention resides in the novel features ofconstruction and unique combinations of parts to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, the descriptive matter being sup-- plemented by the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application and in which:
Figure 1 is an edge view of the clip applied; Y
Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the cables and a side elevation of the clip;
Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the plane indicated by the line 3 3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. et is a similar view on the plane designated by the line H of Fig. l; and
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the base plate.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a, suitably shaped base plate provided with two spaced pairs of parallel upstanding fingers 2, and with laterally extending apertured ears 3 at its edges. The upper side of plate l is provided with a longitudinal flat-bottomed channel 4 located between the ngers 2 and decreasing in depth from its center to its ends; said plate also having a longitudinal slot 5 opening into the bottom of the channel.
An elongated shoe 6 is received between the arms 2 and said shoe is decreased gradually in thickness toward its ends by beveling its lower side upwardly from its center. The shoe 6 is received slidably in the channel 4L and is by preference lcurved transversely for minimum contact with the flat bottom thereof. To prevent detachment of the shoe 6 during shipment of the clip and Specication of Letters' Patent.
Patented Mar. 25, 1919.
Serial No. 244,406.
before application thereof to the cables, the
bottom of said shoe is pro-vided with a central apertured lug 7 projecting through the slot 5, a cotter pin or the like 8 being inserted through the opening of said lug below the base plate l. The upper surface of-the shoe 6 is preferably channeled longitudinally to.
tothe coacting bevels of the channel 4 and the shoe. The bottom of the channel in the upper side of the shoe is by preference depressed slightly below the ends of the shoe.
A clamping yoke is provided for the cables, said yoke being preferably constructed of a transverse cross arm 11 and a pair of clamping bolts 12 passing through the ends of said cross arm and through the apertures of the ears 3. It will thus be seen that when the two cable ends or other portions of the cable or cables are inserted between the cross arm 11 and the shoe 6, and the bolts 12 tightened, the clip will be effectively secured in place to clamp the parallel portions of cable tightly together. The cross arm 11 is disposed immediately opposite the depressed central portion of the shoe 6 so Vthat tightening of the bolts 12 will bow the cables downwardly, thus, causing the device to more effectively grip.V Any tendency of one cable to slip in respect to the other, will slide the shoe 6, and the coacting beveled surfaces on this shoe and the base plate 1 will force the former more tightly to operative position, thus absolutely preventing any further slippage.
From the foregoing, taken in connection y with the accompanying drawing, it will be obvious that although my invention is of extremely simple and inexpensive nature, it will be highly efficient and in every way desirable. Since probably the best results are obtained from the details shown and described, they are by preference followed, but
"within the scope of the invention as claimed,
considerableV latitude is allowed for making such minor changes as occasion may dictate.
I claim:
, l. A cable clip comprising a base plate having two spaced pairs of parallel fingers extending laterally from one of its sides and adapted to receive the. cables therebetween, said side of the base plate having a longitudinal channel between said fingers,v
said channel decreasing in depth from its center to its ends, a shoe between said lingers decreasing in thickness from its center to its ends for sliding contact with the bottom of said channel, the upper face of said shoe being roughened to engagerone of the cables, apertured ears extending laterally from the edges of said base plate, and a cable clamping yoke having clamping bolts to straddle the cables and pass throughsaid ears.
t2; A rope clip comprising a base plate having two spaced pairs of parallel fingers4 extending laterally from one of its sides and adapted to receive the cables therebetween, said sides of the base plate having a loiigitudinal flatbottoined channel between said'v fingers and decreasing in depth from its cen ter to its ends, a shoe between said lingers` decreasing in thickness from its-centergtor itsends and curved transversely on its ybot# toin for restricted Contact with the lat botsaid channel decreasingin depth from its center to its ends, a shoe between said lingers decreasing in th-icknessefroniits center to its ends for-sliding Contact with the bottoni of said channel, the upper face of' said shoe being roughened to engage one of the cables, an apertured lugV dependingcentrally fronisaid shoe, `said baseplateA hai-ing a longitudinal slot/through which said lugy extends, aV pin passingthrough said lug below saidV base plate, aperturedears extending laterally frol'n the; edges of said base-pla-te5and a cable clamping yoke having bolt'swtostra'ddl'ethe cables and pass through said ears. l f
In testimony. whereoi` I have here-unto setv my hand. y v
