CTGARETTE AND MATCH CASE.
terence Application led October 26, 1916.
To all whom t may concern.'
that I, ARTHUR rll'. MORAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hopkinton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette and Match Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in a cigarette and match'case and the primary object is to provide a receptacle that of the invention the with a cover adapted -to envelop the greater portion of the receptacle and have its end normally disposed 1n close proximity to the open end of the receptacle s0 that the water will be eX- cluded from the receptacle.
As afurther object of the invention the evice is provided with a raised portion or cad circumscribing the receptacle and adapted to register witha depression formed in the cover when the cover is applied to the receptacle and thus forming a water-tight joint t0 exclude the water from the receptacle.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a water-proof receptacle of this character having a A further object of this invention is the provision of a cigarette and match case which consists of comparatively few parts and is simple in construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subjecte lFor a full description of the invention and the advantages and mer-its thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention.. in which;
Figure 1 is a front elevation.
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation.
lFig. 3 is a vertical section on the line 3-3 of llig. It.
Fig. 4 1s a side elevation of the cigarette and match container showing the cover in Specification of Letters Patent.
water-proof whereby cigarettes and I tainer Patented duly 2A, TATA.. Serial No. 127,882.
lsection to expose the corrugated surface for scratching matches on the container. y
llfig. 5 is a horizontal section on the line 5-5 of llfig. A.
llleferring to the drawing, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, and in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the main container l is substantially rectangular in horizontal cross section as shown by Fig. 5 of the drawing and is of sufficient depth to receive cigarettes of the ordinary length. The top of the container l is open and one of the side walls of the container, adjacent its upper edgeis crimped to provide the corrugations 2 for the purpose of igniting a match. lintermediate the top and bottom of the container l, the side and end walls thereof are provided with a struck-out portion forming a substantially semiweircular bead 3 for providing one of the joint elements for the cover at a point considerably spaced from the said eorrugations.
The cover A is designed to embrace the upper portion of the container l and snugly tit the same. Adjacent its open end` the cover is provided with a struck-out portion 5 forming a bead similar to the bead 3 on the container and, when the cover is in applied position, the struck-out portion 5 on the cover will register with the bead 3 on the container by snapping into position when the cover is thrust over the open end of the container thereby providing a watertight joint for excluding the water from 'the container.
Attached to the cover -l is a clip 6 by which the device may be fastened to the bathing garment of the leather, the preferred manner of carrying the device being to placev the container within the throat portion or open neck portion of the jersey and fasten the clip 6 to the marginal edge thereof. The device will then be exposed as little as is possible while. at the same time, it is within easy reach of the bather.
lln addition to performing the function of a water-tight joint, the two struck-out portions 3 and 5 when they are in engag ment with each other form a means for preventing the displacement of the main confroin the cover. l claim: A cigarette and match safe comprising a lllltl container of elongated formation having a depression on its interior extending around the side and end Walls of the container and forming a bead on the exterior of the container substantially intermediate the ends thereof, the upper marginal edgeof one of the side Walls at a point remote from the e said bead being provided with a series of corrugations for forming a match striking surface, a cover for the said container having an 'elongated portion adapted to embrace the upper portion of the said container, the said cover having a struck out portion near its open end adapted t'o register with the said bead, the interior surface of the said cover being tightly engageable with the exterior of the upper portion of the said container' to provide a water tight joint in addition to the joint provided by the said registration of the bead with the said struck out portion of the cover whereby the said match striking surface will be prevented from becoming damp when the container is submerged in Water after the cover has been mounted in position.
