HOLDER FOR WATCHES AND THE LIKE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB 28, 1916'.

AMEDEUS DALMAS, 0F OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA HOLDER FOR WATCHES AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 1, 1918.
Application filed February 28, 1916. Serial No. 81,036.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMnDnUs DALMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders for 'Watches and the like, of which the following is a specificat-ion.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved form of watch holder which will be simple and inexpensive in con struction, neat and attractive in appearance, and hold the watch securely to the pocket or garment of the wearer.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved watch holder in a pocket, the pocket being shown in section; Fig. 2 is a rear view of the holder.
Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates a Watch in a pocket 2. 3 indicates my improved holder, comprising a flat disk-shaped portion 4 adapted to rest against the outer surface of the wall 5 of the pocket near the upper edge thereof, a tapering extension 6, which extends first upwardly and then downwardly, making a comparatively sharp turn 7, and lies against the inner surface of the wall 5 of said pocket, and, next, an upward and rearward extension 8 bent at its upper end to form a loop 9 surrounding the upper portion of the ring of the watch stem 10. Said extension 8, like the extension 6, tapers rearwardly. A tongue 11 is cut out of the extension 6, and when the extension 8 is bent upwardly and rearwardly, said tongue 11 extends downwardly and forwardly in the same plane, so that its lower edge engages the inner surface of the front wall 5 of the pocket. The spring of the metal in the extensions 8 and 6 causes said lower edge of the tongue to press against said inner surface with sufficient friction to hold the watch firmly in the pocket. However, by inserting the thumb in the pocket and pressing the loop 9 forwardly, the bend Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
between the extensions 6 and 8 acts as a pivot, so that the lower edge of the tongue is withdrawn from the inner surface of the wall 5 of the pocket.
The disk l is of such form as to permit of ornamentations, symbols, signs, emblems, initials and the like to be marked thereon.
It is to be understood that numerous changes and modifications may be made herein without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
I have herein described and claimed the device as being for the purpose of holding a watch in a pocket or otherwise as the case may be, but it is obvious that it may also be used for holding in a pocket other articles of a like form or character. I desire it therefore to be understood that the word watch used in the specification and claim is used as a brief expression to denote a watch or any other article of like form and character suitable to be held by my improved holder.
I claim A watch holder comprising a flat portion adapted to rest against the outer surface of the front wall of a pocket near its upper edge and having a downwardly tapering extension from its top adapted to lie against the inner surface of said wall and having also an upward and rearward extension having a loop at its upper end adapted to surround the upper portion of the ring of a watch stem, and having a tongue extending downwardly and forwardly from the firstnamed extension in the same plane as the v second-named extension, its lower edge engaging the inner surface of said wall.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AMEDEUS DALMAS. Witnesses F. M. WRIGHT, D. B. RICHARDS.
