METAL CLOTHES-PIN.
Specification of vLetters Patent.
Patented Aug. 29, i916.
Application filed October 20, 1915. Serial No. 56,872.
To all w/Lom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HERMAN A. REP- scHLAnGER, a citizen of the United States, residing` at Bancroft, in the county of Cuming, State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metal Clothes-Pins; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in clothes pins, and particularly to av blank for forming the aws of said pins.
One object of the present invention is to provide an extremely simple and cheap jaw member for a metal clothes pin, and one which can be manufactured with the minimum of labor and time.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing: Figure l is a side elevation of my improved clothes pin; Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof; and Fig. 8 is a transverse section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4L is a plan view of the blank from which one of the pivoted members is made.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a pair of members formed preferably of sheet metal and cach being formed intermediate its ends Awith the oppositely extending and angularly directed ears l1 as clearly sho-wn in Fig. 4. The pair of ears of one of the members are disposed between the pair of ears of the other members and are suitably perforated to receive a pivot pin l2 therethrough, whereby the two members are pivotally connected together. On the opposite longer edges of the member l0 are formed the wings 13 which are adapted to be bent at right angles to the body of the member to form reinforcing flanges as seen in Figs. l, 2 and 3. At the other end of the member is formed a finger piece 14.
As clearly seen in Fig. a, the fold lines of the tabs ll are offset inwardly of the adjacent ends of the fold lines o-f the wings. Both of these fold lines are dotted in Fig. a.
Engaged around the intermediate portion of the pivot pin when the finished device is assembled are the coils of a spring 16, the ends of which are respectively engaged against the inner faces of the finger pieces and exert outward pressure thereon to normally hold the opposite ends or jaws in engagement with each other.
What is claimed is:
A blank for forming the jaw of a clothes pin comprising a rectangular body, longitudinally extending wings formed on the sides of the body and defined therefrom by fold lines, the body being extended at one end to form an enlarged head, a neck connecting the body and head and formed with parallel incisions extending inward from opposite sides in pairs and beyond the said fold lines to define tabs formed with openings, said tabs being further defined by fold lines extending beyond the first fold lines but offset inwardly therefrom.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
HERMAN A. REPSCHLAEGER.
Vitnesses:
G. L. REBHAUSEN, W. J. MEYER.
