The brackets 3 and'5 are connectedwith a spider 8, whichforms a bearing member and is provided with the bearing lugs 9, and a centrally located aperture 10, it being seen that the lugs- 9 are located in proximity to the arms of the spider in order to give the maximum strength and rigidity to the machine.1 In the present instance, I have shown the bracket 5 secured to the spider 8. means of a fastening device 28. The outer or free end of said crank-arm 27 is in sliding engagement with a guide 29-, which lat ter is provided with an aperture 30 therethrough, through which the crank-arm 27 extends. The guide 29 is provided with a reduced neck 31, which is journaled in the bearing 22 and maintained in assembled position with respect thereto, by meansof a pin 32, passing through the reduced neck 31. The upper end of the crank-arm 27 has the screws or threaded pin 33 passing therethrough and provided with thumb-nuts 34:, whereby the cutter arm 35 may be secured with respect to the crank-arm 27, it being seen that said cutter arm 35 is provided with slots 36, extending through the side wall thereof. The arm 35 is deflected laterally and downwardly at an angle to the crankarm 27 and has secured to its lower end,a cutting or chopping blade or tool 37, in any desired manner, it being understood that the blade 37 may have substituted therefor, any desired type of mixing or stirring member. The blade 37 is provided on its bottom face with a preferably curved cutting face, asat 38, which merges into the upwardly curved cutting face 39, which extends through the forward end thereof. Ifdesired, a wooden or other block 40 may be placed in the bottom of the container 19, in order to prevent injury to the container 19. H i
i The operation of my novel chopping and mixing machine will now be apparent to those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, and is as follows :Assuming that the machine is to be manually operated, and that the materialto be treated has been placed in the container 19, the operator,
by means of the handle 7, causes the shaft 4 to be rotated, and since the pinion 15 is in mesh with the gear 14, the container will continuously revolve. Since the gear 6 is in mesh with the pinion 23, the disk 25 will be rotated, thereby causing the crank-arm 27 to be reciprocated in theguide 29, and
owing to the provision of said guide, the blade 37 will not only be raised and lowered, but willhave an oscillatory movement imparted thereto, so that a sliding or draw out on the material within the'container is produced This movement also causes a radial movement of the materlal within the container 19, with respect to theaxisof said container. It will be. seen that the crankarm 27 is curved at its lower end, thereby enabling me to locate thedriving means for said crank-arm substantially beneath the container, so that the machine will take up but a minimum amount of space; When it is desired to move the material; which has been cut or mixed, depending. upon the character of blade or implement, whichhas been employed, the arm 35, as is apparent, will not interfere with the removalofsuch material, and, if desired,-such arm can be readily removed byI-actuating the thumb nuts 34, as is apparent Special attention is directed tothe fact that the container is continuously rotated, and that the cutter ing machine, which embodies thehfeatures of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description, and while I have, in the present instance, shown and described apreferred embodiment thereof, which will give in practice, satisfactory andreliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars 7 without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages. 1 Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is p I p LA device ofthe character stated, comprising'a container, means to continuously rotate said container, a crank arm, a tool operatively connected with. said crank arm and extending within. said container, a. pivotally mounted guide for said crank arm, and actuating means for said crank arm.v

A device of the character stated, comprising a spider having. bearing members thereon, a support mounted onsaid spider and provided with a gear, a container carried by said support, a crank disk, a crank L 100 It will now be apparent that I have de- .vised a novel and useful chopping and mixprising a' spider having bearing members thereon and provided with a bracket, a support mounted on said spider and provided with a gear, a container carried by said support, a crank disk, a crankarmconnected with said disk, a guide pivotally mounted in said bracket through'which the upper end of said crank arm passes, a tool located within the container and removably connected to the crank arm, and means to revolve said support'and'said crank disk.

A device of the character stated, comprising a framework, a spider carried thereby, asupport rotatably mounted on said spider, means to maintain said support and spider 1n assembled ;pos1t1on, a container mounted on said-support, a gear carried by Copies of this patent may be. obtained for tively connected with said driving shaft a bracket, an apertured guide movably said support, driving shaft operatively connected with said gear, a cam disk operacarried by said bracket, a crank arm passing through the aperture of said guide, a cutter arm having one end secured to said crank arm and its other end extending into said container, and a working tool carried by'said cutter arm.
5. A device of the character stated, comprising a container, means to revolve the same, a working tool within the container, a connection from said Working tool, means to vertically reciprocate said connection,
and a guide With which said connection is in sliding engagement, said guide being pivotally supported in a horizontal plane lying above the bottom of said container.
